Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

On all of our trips, 100% of the profits go back into the Trans Bhutan Trail and its future sustainability. Before each trip, including this one, we have undertaken a survey and partnered with the Department of Forestry to ensure our trips are committed to maintaining Bhutan’s status as a Carbon Negative country. This tour includes a visit to the Black Necked Crane Center ensuring that we are continuing to support them and the work they do to protect these endangered species.

Other environmental initiatives on this trip include that travellers are given a trail code before they depart with strict rules including a no littering policy. On the days spent trekking on the Trans Bhutan Trail, we use signposts made from recycled waste products with our partnership with Greener Way as well as enforcing a no single use plastic policy on our trips.

Finally, for each international traveller booked on this trip, we will plant a tree as part of our wider sustainability goal to ensure Bhutan maintains its leadership status in being a Carbon Negative country.

People

Community is at the heart of what we believe in and all of our trips contain unique experiences which allow our travellers to learn about and support the different communities that live in Bhutan. This trip designed for women has a number of truly special opportunities to meet inspirational women from different communities including visiting two different nunneries, a female farmer and a former female policewoman who now paves the way in Bhutanese cuisine.

By visiting their residences and restaurants we ensure our trips are supporting them as well as educating our travellers on female-owned businesses in Bhutan. This trip also employs a female local guide.

When on the Trans Bhutan Trail, travellers have the chance to interact with our signposts which all include QR technology that brings to live stories and traditions from the region. By adding this, we can ensure Bhutan’s history and culture is shown to Bhutanese and international travellers alike.

Our project has also ensured a number of office based roles to Bhutanese employees, with our operations and domestic marketing team based in Thimphu.
