Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
Bhutan is a carbon neutral country and we are committed in our own trips to highlighting sustainability and environmental responsibility. You will be given a trail code before starting this adventure which outlines our responsible trekking policy, especially when walking along the Trans Bhutan Trail. 100% of the profits from this trip go back into sustaining the Trail, benefitting both the environment perspective and the communities that live along it and who help us provide unique experiences for our travellers. When staying at the homestays and the signature campsite, you will be served organically-grown local produce; and the Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary, like us, operates a zero single use plastic policy in guest rooms.
For the sections hiked on the Trans Bhutan Trail on days 2 and 4, we have partnered with the Department of Forestry to ensure that the Trail is not adversely impacting on the environment we walk through.
People
This itinerary is focused on local experiences where travellers can interact with Bhutan’s spiritual communities. At Ogyen Choling, you will have three days to fully immerse yourself in the culture and learn about meditation techniques from the scholars here. By staying in its guesthouse we are ensuring money is going back into Ogyen Choling and its foundation in order to preserve Bhutan’s heritage. You will also visit the Pema Choling Nunnery, and by doing this, you will support the women and girls who enroll here as well learn about their traditions and history.Whilst walking on the Trans Bhutan Trail you will encounter signposts which we equipped with QR codes to showcase the communities that live along it. You will be able to read about the history of the local region and the legends that are associated with it.
You will be accompanied by a licensed national guide throughout this trip, creating employment for local people; and , as with all of our trips, 100% of the profit from this itinerary goes back into the Trans Bhutan Trail and the communities that live along it.
