This Winter Wellness Retreat is held at the world-renowned eco centre, the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT). Curated with the environment in mind, this trip has a low carbon footprint per traveller. The venue is a sustainable living charity organisation, dedicated to a more sustainable future. Focusing on educational workshops and classes CAT is an inspiring place to visit when it comes to eco-friendly living. Whilst at CAT guests will have the opportunity to tour the organic gardens and learn sustainable gardening practices, giving them practical take home's to make their own gardening as eco-friendly as possible.
CAT is also an innovator in renewable energy. The accommodation buildings have been carefully designed with consideration to eco methods and materials, energy consumption is carefully minimised and on-site renewable energy installations feed into the grid. Buildings are heated by on-site biomass boilers, and showers and basins in the main building are heated by solar-thermal cells on the roof.
All the meals on this trip are made up of as many seasonal ingredients as possible and in many circumstances they have come straight from the centre's own organic gardens. The restaurant and cafe are fully vegetarian and vegan to stay in line with the centre's promise to be as low-carbon as possible.
People
Our passion for supporting the local community is demonstrated on this winter wellness retreat. The retreat will be run by a local yoga instructor, providing them with a long-weekend of work during the off-season of January.Hosting a Winter Wellness retreat in the south of Snowdonia helps to boost tourism in this sometimes over looked area of the Snowdonia National Park. As well as offering an insight into how holiday's in Wales aren't just for the summer.
By holding this retreat at CAT it is supporting a charity organisation, frequently visited by students of all ages to learn about sustainable living and renewable energy. CAT holds workshops and talks to bring people together for good causes. By bringing paying guests to stay on site we are helping to fund this valuable hub for school groups, local communities and those further afield.
Our group numbers are kept small as we find this not only makes a better experience for our guests, but avoids an influx of visitors into one area, which can negatively impact the local community.
