Description of Atlas Mountains mountain biking holiday

Several years' worth of cycling in the Anti Atlas Mountains have led us to create this ultimate Atlas Mountains mountain biking tour, following our favourite tracks through some of most varied and dramatic landscapes these mountains have to offer. This off-road itinerary takes you along rocky jeep tracks, fast singletrack through palm groves, and hairpin trails that have been followed by muleteers for centuries.

A lack of mass tourism in this area has preserved not only these stunning landscapes but also the traditional Berber culture. We’ve built up a relationship with local communities over the years, ensuring you get to experience the best of the Berber lifestyle, food and exceptionally warm welcome.

Over six days’ cycling, you’ll cover between 35-55km a day, the majority of it offroad – there will be a support vehicle close by for most of the trip. This Atlas Mountains mountain biking holiday takes you to places that neither vehicles nor trekkers are likely to access, leaving you to traverse the otherworldly, boulder-strewn lunar landscapes, gorges, dry riverbeds and desert oases without interruption. The rough and ready landscapes contrast with the beautiful hotels; many are decorated in lavish North African style with a swimming pool and terrace, ideal for enjoying those stunning Moroccan sunsets.

Holiday information

Small group tour, ideal for solos & couples:
Small group travel is not large group travel scaled down. It is modeled on independent travel – but with the advantage of a group leader to take care of the itinerary, accommodation and tickets, and dealing with the language. It’s easy to tick off the big sights independently – but finding those one-off experiences, local festivals, travelling markets and secret viewpoints is almost impossible for someone without the insider knowledge gained from years in the field. For those with limited time, a small group tour will save valuable time in planning, and on holiday.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

How this trip helps protect and conserve local landscapes and nature.
• By travelling in a small group we ‘tread lightly’ to minimise our impact on local resources and the environment.
• We work with our partners on the ground to proactively reduce waste; this includes eliminating all single-use plastic water bottles by providing refills for re-usable bottles.
• We rewild 100 square metres per passenger to compensate for all trip and flight emissions.

Tips for sustainable travel on this trip
• Leave no trace: we do all we can to ensure we leave no rubbish in the wild and beautiful places we visit; we ask that you do the same. If there are no recycling facilities in-country, consider bringing recyclable materials home with you.
• Plastic waste reduction: please bring a re-usable water bottle on this trip, also consider avoiding single-use hotel toiletries, which generate a large amount of plastic waste.

People

How this trip helps improve life for local communities.
• Local guides keep you well informed about local traditions and cultural-social sensitivities.
• This trip brings income and opportunity to the destination community through the inclusion of locally owned hotels, restaurants, and other enterprises, and by championing locally produced food wherever possible.
• We buy supplies from small shops in the villages we pass through which supports the local economy.
• The traditional hammam experience in Tiznit provides employment for local people.
