Small group tour:
Small group travel is not large group travel scaled down. It is modelled on independent travel – but with the advantage of a group leader to take care of the itinerary, accommodation and tickets, and dealing with the language. It’s easy to tick off the big sights independently – but finding those one-off experiences, local festivals, travelling markets and secret viewpoints is almost impossible for someone without the insider knowledge gained from years in the field. Those with a two-week holiday, a small group tour will save valuable planning time.
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
PlanetWe make the most of public transport on this trip taking a ride on the Kukushka narrow gauge railway, taking cable cars for views of the Caucasus and exploring Tbilisi on foot. Using these slower methods of transport give us a great chance to interact with locals as we go, to take our time and to lower our carbon impact too.
Visiting the Gergeti Trinity Church is a must on any visit to Gerogia. On this trip, instead of driving, we strap on snowshoes and hike from our hotel to the impressively located church, perched on a hilltop overlooking the mountains. The journey there and back is as much fun as the destination, and no previous snowshoe experience is needed, just a willingness to have a go.
In addition to the above, we are continually looking for ways to improve and are proud to be ‘Responsible in everything we do’. Education is key and so all staff, Tour Leaders and partnering suppliers are trained in responsible and sustainable tourism. At our Head Office, we continually strive towards a sustainable and planet-friendly working environment, including having solar panels installed and a company commitment to reducing our plastic usage. As well as this, we have valuable and longstanding partnerships with UK charities Toilet Twinning and Send a Cow, plus many smaller initiatives and projects around the world. We’re members of UK travel industry bodies Tourism Concern and AITO because we believe it’s important to share our knowledge and experience, as well as learn from other operators.
As a company we support Cool Earth. Protecting rainforest is one of the most effective actions to tackle climate breakdown. CoolEarth work with indigenous communities empowering them to conserve their forest; keeping CO2 locked in.
PeopleIn Georgia we are working with the German government organisation ‘GIZ’ to help our partners train locals further down the supply train – from guides and drivers to hoteliers and restaurant owners. This helps to professionalise the industry in Georgia at a local level and benefits all businesses that we interact with. We always want to show you as much of the real country as we can so we employ a local tour leader and variety of local guides who can really bring the culture to life for you in an authentic way.
By travelling in winter we are supporting hotels and suppliers during a traditionally quiet season, as well as getting the benefit of exploring the sights away from the crowds. Typically winter visitors to Georgia are travelling to ski resorts so by visiting Tbilisi, Stepandsminda our groups help bring a little winter business to these small hotels.
