Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: British Virgin Islands sailing holiday

We strive to give back to the community and environment.

A big part of reducing an impact on the local environment is how we clean our yachts. We use local labour and suppliers, biodegradable cleaning products and innovative products such as solar torches and LED lighting. By minimising negative social, economic and environmental impacts, we hope to preserve this amazing destination for generations to come. All of our charter boats have solar panels converting the suns energy into electricity which makes a massive difference. They are also built with ceramic finishes which cuts cleaning and the use of cleaning products out completely.

Our customers are briefed on respecting communities when receiving their chart briefing on arrival so they are aware of what to look out for when sailing within the charter grounds. They are asked to look after areas where there are coral outcrops and to never anchor on coral. Protecting marine and animal life is extremely important to us so we want to make sure we are educating our clients on how to do so. This is all explained in the chart briefing once the client arrives at the destination.

Our customers are able to pick up fishing permits for their charter however are educated on exactly where they can and cannot fish making sure they refrain from fishing in the local National Parks.

Lastly, we have installed a sea water circulation pump which circulates the water out of the marina every 48 hours ensuring the we have fresh water in our marina at all times. We want to ensure out marina is looked after at all times.

We encourage our customers to respect the cultures they visit, by learning about their destination before departure, thus giving an understanding of dress codes, local language, photography and general communication.

With all of our trips out to the British Virgin Islands customers support VISAR, Virgin Islands Search and Rescue (VISAR). This is a voluntary organisation dedicated to saving life at sea. It is the officially recognised search and rescue service in the British Virgin Islands and to date have raised several thousand pounds for this worthwhile cause.

We organize the whole customer experience including the flight out to the destination. We use VI Airlink as a connection flight from Antigua to Tortola which is an airline specifically operated for guests travelling out to the British Virgin Islands. This is a local airline which means booking with this airline benefits the local community.

When organizing a customers charter, we also offer the opportunity to provision the yacht. We have recently partnered with Good Moon Farm which is an organic farm situated in Turnbull Estate on fertile north side of Tortola Island in the BVI. We do our upmost to support the local community by using local produce and giving local companies our business.
