Day-by-day experiences

Day 1:Fly to Salvador, the capital of Bahia and meet your guide, who takes you to your charming hotel in the old colonial area near Pelourinho. From here you can enjoy the great nightlife and wonderful restaurants of this exciting city.
Day 2:A full day with your guide to catch the sights and sounds of Salvador. Arguably Brazil's most vibrant city, the unique combination of African and Latin cultures has produced a fascinating blend, which is dominated by pulsing music everywhere you go.
Day 3:Spend a day in the non touristic parts of Salvador, visiting local communities with your guide to share their way of life, mainly in the forms of food and music.
Day 4:Travel to the sleepy town of Lençois, gateway to the Chapada Diamantina. After settling into your riverside hotel, your guide can take you for a stroll around town, or to a nearby table top mountain by car for a short walk to the summit to enjoy the sunset.
Day 5:Set off walking into the National Park today and the Pati Valley. You walk with just a daypack, with mules porting your other luggage, along a valley past one of the highest mountains in the park, which you can choose to ascend for even more spectacular views.
Day 6:A long hike today, but one which is considered to be the most beautiful in Brazil. Set off across grasslands with mountains all around, before following a red sandstone riverbed surrounded by tall plants to beautiful Cachoeirão Valley. Take a cooling dip under a waterfall later.
Day 7:Visit two hidden and little-known waterfalls before an ascent of Morro do Castelo, or 'Castle Hill' for superb views from the top. Watch the sun set before a breathtaking, unpolluted view of the stars and the Milky Way stretching across the sky.
Day 8:Wake up early today to hike up and out of the Pati Valley to the town of Andaraí, then to the crystal blue waters of Poço Azul, an underground cave pool which catches the light in such a way that the water is luminescent, a truly beautiful sight. Time for a gentle swim in the clear waters before returning to Lencois.
Day 9:Enjoy the views as you travel to the coast and the peaceful tropical island of Boipeba. Here you can be as active – or inactive – as you please at your pousada, set up on the bluff with glorious views of beaches, palms and blue seas.
Day 10:Begin to explore this beautiful island by sea kayak, boat and snorkeling, strolling the pristine beaches and swimming - or just watching the world go by from a hammock if you prefer.
Day 11:If you have some energy left there is a great hike to an isolated beach on the other side of the island, where you can take a canoe back to the east coast and enjoy the afternoon light on the flat waters of the river which cuts through the island.
Day 12:Grab a snorkel and jump on a boat to a shallow natural pool in the ocean, where you can easily spot a dozen different fish, or watch the locals fishing in the shallow waters. While here you should make sure to sample some of the island's fresh and delicious seafood.
Day 13:Return to Salvador for your flight to Rio de Janeiro, where you stay in an historic and charming neighbourhood of cobbled streets and great restaurants and bars.
Day 14:Spend the day with your guide discovering Rio's bays and valleys, forested hills and sandy beaches, from the iconic views of the Corcovado and Sugar Loaf mountains to the vibrant favelas.
Day 15:A morning at leisure in iconic Rio before you head to the airport for your flight home, or on to explore the Green Coast, the stunning Iguaçu falls or the wildlife of the Pantanal and the Amazon jungle.

This trip can be tailormade at a time to suit you and can be adapted to suit your interests, budget and requirements as necessary.

Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

Starting in July 2019, we have been measuring every kilometre travelled as part of our holidays, plus every kilometre travelled to get there, and back, from your door.

This lets us calculate the carbon generated, and, more importantly, to do something about it. To be sure that our travels are truly positive, for every carbon kilometre of your trip, we balance off a carbon mile.

Probably the very best Brazil has to offer is in its people. We have worked hand in hand with our Brazilian friends to design a holiday that will get you to discover the secrets of Brazil, without the crowds and in harmony with your surroundings.

We are passionate about the places we visit, so to help preserve the integrity of these destinations we keep groups small and enourage you to travel longer to minimise environmental impact – in this case we tailor this trip for two or more people.

The Impacts of this Trip

We know that our style of small scale travel, booked directly with your hosts, gives our holidays true character whilst also helping to support communities and protect many areas of outstanding beauty and ecological importance.

This holiday features the very definition of community-based, sustainable tourism. We have chosen small, locally owned and run properties which are closely integrated with their communities. Food ingredients will be locally sourced, in the home stays even grown on the property or nearby farms, so your stay is directly benefitting your hosts and their neighbours. Your guide is from this area so helps facilitate direct and meaningful contact between Bahian locals and our clients.
