Responsible tourism: Garden Route self drive holiday in South Africa

When booking this holiday you can be certain that you are on a tour where the most comprehensive responsible tourism guidelines are followed in order to guarantee that your trip benefits the destination. In your travel documents you will find information on how to neutralize your carbon offset of which we did our part too as we operate from a Carbon Neutral office.
The accommodations used in this itinerary have shown their dedication to their staff and the local communities surrounding them. Where possible we have made use of suppliers with a Fair Trade Tourism and / or Heritage SA certification. You will be adding positively to the environment by staying more than one night at the same accommodations and so reduce your footprint. We go the extra mile by calculating your kilometers you drive so neutralizing your offset becomes even easier. We always encourage you to offset your CO2 emissions locally via Food & Trees For Africa.

Founded by us, our nonprofit organisation works towards creating awareness and sharing of knowledge, culture and passion. Visitors who exchange skills and knowledge with the locals, help support the set up of vibrant tourist stops and community development projects. With continued assistance and participation, visits and feedback visitors and volunteers creates sustenance and boosts the local economy, in turn generating direct income and employment opportunities. Together with local NGO’s and organizations, cooperation is sought for further development of the Trust, providing a network for volunteers and visitors to South Africa eventually hoping to start a helpdesk for sustainable and responsible holidays. A part of the profit we make is going towards our nonprofit organization and this is just one simple example of how your holiday directly benefits the destination. On this tour we work with local operators for our meet & greets, transfers and excursions and most accommodations are involved in the empowerment of their communities. One of these accommodations is Woodbury Tented Lodge in the Amakhala Game Reserve, one of their foundations The Amakhala Foundation is home to the social projects of the Amakhala Game Reserve, as well as the educational projects of the Conservation Centre. The Foundation is funded by outside donor bodies as well as through the payment of bed levies from Amakhala’s commercial lodges (one of the lodges being Woodbury). Staff members at Amakhala that come from the local community have been put through various in-house training programmes on an ongoing basis, to enable them to take on new positions and responsibilities. Some of them have been involved in Hospitality Learnerships, some have participated in an International Labour Organisation course, and others have received Leadership training. One staff member has even been trained as a field guide. We will continue to use suppliers that have the drive and commitment to uplift their communities in the same way as the Amakhala foundation. You as a traveler can rest assured that when booking this tour you are making a direct positive impact on local South Africa.
