Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

Cycling is the greenest form of travel causing zero damage to the environment. Transfers in motor vehicles are minimized as far as possible. The Hornbill Camp at Thattekkad is a perfect example of maximizing gains from tourism for the local communities with minimum environmental impact.

We encourage our clients to follow environmental and friendly practices of water conservation, waste disposal and recycling. All our holidays have a maximum group size of 6 people minimizing both the social and environmental impact.

People

Cycling also makes it possible to interact with the locals and understand their culture and lifestyle.

Accommodation is arranged in camps, hotels, eco-lodges and homestays owned and run by local entrepreneurs thereby directly contributing to the local economy. The Hornbill camp has been set up as a model of sustainable tourism. The employees are all locally hired, provisions are sourced from the surrounding village and the camp follows strict environmental practices like disposal of waste, reducing electric consumption etc. There is a strong policy of employing women.

Our guides and drivers are all from the local community and tourism is their sole means of livelihood.
