Description of Thailand beaches, small group holiday

This small group holiday to Thailand is all about islands and beaches - think bright blue sea, powder soft sand and simple beach bungalows. The pace is as laid-back as the surroundings on this trip, and you’ll be heading out to the country’s southern islands to chill out in the sun and sample the region’s famous cuisine.

After meeting your fellow travellers in Bangkok, and taking a tour of this exciting city, you’ll board an overnight train south to Langsuan. From here you’ll take a a ferry to the small island of Koh Pitak for a night in a village homestay, where you’ll be able to witness local life first hand and eat typical southern Thai food. Back on the mainland you’ll make your way to Chumphon, where you’ll stay at a guesthouse on Thung Wua Lan Beach. There’s time for relaxing on the beach as well as spending a full day snorkelling out on the local reefs.

Next, you’ll make for the beautiful island of Ko Tao, famed for its incredible coral reefs. There’s also a lively (but small) bar and club scene if you want to stay up late into the night. The island of Ko Samui is your final stop. Thailand's third largest island, it provides quite a contrast to your previous beachside stops, with vibrant nightlife, plush spas, Michelin starred restaurants and lively shopping districts all on offer. As well as enjoying the many attractions here, there’s the option to take a day trip to Ang Thong Marine National Park, a sublime archipelago made up of around 40 mostly uninhabited islands.

Environment

As a global operator, we take our role in the tourism industry very seriously. We recognise the impact that tourism has on local communities and the environment, and we plan and operate all our tours with this front of our minds. We believe that every tour operator must be responsible in the way they conduct their business, to ensure the welfare of all people and the conservation of the environment.

We are committed to operating in a responsible manner, incorporating the principles of sustainable development in the way we provide our travellers with real life experiences. These values are more than just words on a page; they are ingrained in our culture and the daily operations of every office and every trip. In addition, we expect our staff and travellers to demonstrate the principles of responsible travel - respecting people, cultures and local environments; in the distribution of wealth; in good will and cross-cultural sharing; and in contributing to sustainable development.

We believe that responsible travel is about the attitude you take with you and the choices you make when travelling - to respect and benefit local people, their cultures, economy and the environment. On trips like this through Asia for example, dress standards are conservative, and we recommend loose, lightweight clothing so as not to offend, particularly outside of the major cities.

We take care to use local transport throughout, including sleeper trains and staying in small, locally owned hotels and guesthouses. We source produce locally throughout the trip, eat at local restaurants and encourage our travellers to purchase souvenirs from local artisans and recruit our on the ground team from the local community. This not only gives a fantastic insight into the country and a snap shot of day to day life, but it also puts valuable financial resources back into the local economy, creating jobs and supporting local businesses.

Our group leaders work as partners with an exceptional team of local guides to give travelers an insight into stunning Southern Thailand - a unique crossroads of culture, custom, jungle, mountains, marine life and islands.
This trip discovers the riches of Thailand's tropical south on this tantalizing journey. You will take in sun-drenched beaches and warm turquoise seas On the delightful little island of Ko Tao, famous for its undeniably spectacular coral reefs, we immerse ourselves in the tropical waters on a snorkeling trip, exploring the seas around the island, where fish are a plenty and there’s the remote chance of seeing timid reef sharks amongst mesmerizing coral formations. Fancy a spot of scuba diving, to discover the deeper depths of abundant marine biodiversity and natural underwater beauty, then diving with our local operator that supports marine conservation and aquatic preservation through the project aware foundation is highly recommended. We encourage our travelers to snorkel without flippers as snorkeling in shallow waters can damage the coral when standing upright.
As company our responsibilities don’t stop when our tours end. Our own in house foundation has been in operation for over 10 years; a not-for-profit fund that has distributed over AU$3 million to more than 70 non-government organisations since 2002, from health care, education, human rights, child welfare, sustainable development and in environmental and wildlife protection. Donations come from our travellers and are then matched by us dollar for dollar.

Projects supported in Thailand in Friends of the Asian Elephant, which aims to protect and conserve the welfare of elephants both domesticated and in the wild, and also Baan Unrak (House of Happiness) an orphanage and community relief centre to children and destitute women.
