Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

Environment
We are located at the south west of Spain, where the 30% of the area is a protected area. We visit the Natural and National parks that surround us making interpretation of the whole wildlife. Our activities are Sailing, trekking and going by bike, because the sustainable moving is our bet.

We advise to the people who come to Isla Cristina to buy at the local market where they can find local products as fruit grown in the surroundings and fresh fish. We also advise to eat those products at the local restaurants. In that way the energetic cost of the products is lower.

We strive to re-cycle as much as we can from all our household and office waste. Glass, paper, cardboard and plastic are separated, and taken to our local town containers. Inkjet cartridges from printers, batteries are also saved for safe disposal. We are also aware of saving electricity and water and when we need to purchase new electrical appliances we consider the ecological implications. Wherever possible we buy bio-diesel fuel for our vehicles.

The Impacts of this Trip

Eco tourism is something we work to maintain at the highest levels we can. It means quite simply, responsible travel to natural areas while conserving the environment and sustaining the well-being of local people. Our trips are specially aimed at responsible clients who wish to participate in environmentally friendly, low-impact nature tourism.

Our Staff is local and very well trained; they are people who live at the areas where we are visiting so the knowledge of the area is wide and deep. We visit local places to eat where it’s possible to taste the real flavour of the deep Spain and Portugal, as the freshest fish and acorn feed Iberian pigs.

During this trip we will show and taste the typical things of the places that we will visit:
- We are going to walk into the hills of Aracena, where we can talk with people from the little villages as Castaño del Robledo and we can taste the produce that are made at the area (Iberian pig products, cork and chestnut products) We also visit a woman who makes chestnut marmalade at her own home during our visit to Aracena hills.
- We will visit El Rocío village where there is Organic livestock as cows and horses which live in the marshes of Doñana during the whole year.
- While kayaking we will be inside a natural reserve where thousands of birds come in spring to breed and in during the fall others come from the north to pass the winter.
- The day of the bikes we visit and also support a local business, one of the last artisanal salt plants that remain in Spain where is possible to collect the salt with the workers sometimes.
- The week that we spend in the south of Portugal we visit little villages where is difficult to get except by boat, so we can see how the Algarve was before the tourism arrived.
- The economic impact of the group is big, because we visit little local restaurants and shops at far from the common routes.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

All was enjoyable, Sergio our first guide for kayaking, bike riding and hiking was
knowledgeable and very easy going. I think for me it was the sailing, Bergonia and Gustavo where great fun and made it a very relaxing week.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

If you are sailing, don’t take a lot of clothes etc, space is at a premium yes, Helps if you have a reasonable grasp of Spanish, which my husband and I didn’t but it was a good time

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

I think so, everything on the yacht was recycled and sorted.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Very good, the bike ride was fun, and we saw parts of Spain/Portugal off the beaten track . El Rocío is a town you have to experience, and bike ride from Isla Cristina to Ayamonte was a great day

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Swimming off the Atlantic coast of Portugal after being towed on a rubber ring by the yacht

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Check the cabin accommodation and what it entails.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes, we visited many small villages both in Spain and Portugal and helped with their economy. We recycled most of our rubbish and deposited some in the appropriate bins on shore.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

I had a great time. It would have been easier if I spoke more Spanish, but my vocabulary did increase.
