When to go to St. Vincent & The Grenadines

Weather guide and events

There is no bad time to go to St Vincent and the Grenadines. The islands sit close to the equator and so they enjoy a steady year-round tropical temperature. Highs are around 32C and the temperature rarely dips below 18. The dry season runs from December to June, and the rainy season from July to November.

St. Vincent's has a slightly wetter climate than the Grenadines as the mountains are high enough to generate more rainfall. In the wet season, the peaks are often shrouded in clouds, but as most of the rain falls at altitude, the coast can often be rain free. Even during the rains, the Grenadine Islands will be drier than the mainland.

This is also the hurricane season, but the most violent storms usually miss St Vincent and the Grenadines.

During the dry season, rain is far less likely, but towards its end, the countryside is less lush than during the rains, especially in the Grenadines.

Festivals and events

Apart from the climate, there are two festivals to consider when planning your trip.

Christmas sees a festival unique to St Vincent and the Grenadines, Nine Days. This is when parties, music and celebrations are held each morning in the run up to Christmas when the whole community wakes before dawn for festivities that last until people wander off to work.

Late July sees the whole country turn out again for Vincy Mas, St Vincent and the Grenadines Carnival when the streets are alive with music, costumes, cooking and some very good times.
