Our mission is to share places that have moved us. It’s something which remains as true now as it was when we started Pura Aventura 20 years ago, following a chance meeting between three travellers in Torres del Paine, at the bottom of Chile. Our first brochure was largely dedicated to Chile’s Carretera Austral. Admittedly, offering holidays to places few had ever heard of was a commercially poor decision in the short-term, but it did mark us out as being driven by a rare dedication to share only places we love. As we grew to offer tailor-made trips in Latin America, Spain and Portugal, we never wavered from this premise. Central to how we work is an unwavering belief that travel can be a force for good and an understanding that we have a duty to protect and benefit these destinations. The unusual way we operate, largely working directly with our hosts, means that responsible travel is in our DNA. So whether on a hike through the Picos Mountains, experiencing the rich texture of Peru's Sacred Valley or bumping down the Carretera Austral in Patagonia, all of our travellers, are linked by a desire to travel with respect, curiosity and gratitude.

How the minimum criteria of the responsible travel standard was met...

Economic responsibility

      • Use small, locally-owned hotels and restaurants. Except in large cities, we know the owners of every property we use.
      • Establish partnerships with guides in communities where we operate so that our holidays are more interesting for our clients and more beneficial for our partners.
      • Fair money is paid for services and it gets there directly, normally long before clients arrive.
      • Book each and every element of our holidays direct with the partner to ensure maximum benefit to the community.

Environmental responsibility

  • Proud member of the 1% for the Planet scheme, through which we donate 1% of our revenue to support environmental projects.
  • Official European Launch Partner for Chile's Route of Parks - the world's most ambitious conservation project.
  • Private individual tours to minimise impact on fragile environment and enhance visitor experience.
  • Promoting eco-lodges which directly protect pristine environments and wildlife habitats.
  • Using small hotels appropriate to their environment and which encourage sustainable water usage.
  • Educating all clients and partners on appropriate environmental behaviour when on holidays – e.g. avoiding single use place and removal of all waste.

Social responsibility

  • We work directly with our partners to ensure maximum economic benefit to them and enhanced community engagement.
  • Constantly monitoring client and guide feedback and responding to information quickly and appropriately.
  • Full information packs sent to all clients, including guidebooks, maps, suggestions for eating out, exploring and shopping within the local community.
  • Facilitating the interaction of clients with local people in a wholly uncontrived and meaningful way.

Founded 1999 by two families, the Martíns in Spain and Powers in UK, this holiday company also has a dual ethos regarding its tailor made holidays, each infused with adventure into both local culture and landscape. Spain and Latin America are their passions.
