How the minimum criteria of the responsible travel standard was met...

Economic responsibility

We employ local guides, use locally owned hotels, plus a locally owned and operated service provider. This helps to ensure that money goes directly into business owner’s hands and not funnelled out of the country through international investment.

By hiring local guides, this ensures there is demand for the trade and that it continues for years to come with there being a demand for younger trainees. Using local personalities and specialist guides, helps bring the destination alive for foreign travellers.

Over the past two years, NDL Group have contributed to earning (and won an award) over £200K towards Make Some Noise. We also volunteer staff support on the phones when they run fundraising events and donate prizes to help with fundraising.

Our staff raise money for charity events, most recently Iain Shiels who is raising money for Cancer Research by driving a 1958 Morris Minor through Africa. NDL Group will be donating to this charity. Iain is 100% self-funded and all money goes directly to the charity. Details here:

Environmental responsibility

In our HQ we have recycling stations which means we recycle paper, cardboard, cans, glass and plastic.

All our printers are set to double sided printing and paper is recycling once used.

NDL Group encourage the Cycle to Work Scheme and many of our staff live locally and cycle/run to work.

Our business goal is to send almost all tour and travel documents electronically as opposed to through the post. This saves printing brochures and paper wastage. Our business tries hard to be paperless.

Many of our travel destinations are European and for this reason, it is safe for customers to drink out of the tap. We encourage staff and customers to bring a reusable bottle instead of buying single use plastic.

NDL Group will not promote any activity or experience which involves zoos, animal cruelty or hunting. This includes elephant riding, feeding of wild animals and any act that upsets the natural habits or habitats of wildlife. Any animals included on our tours are heavily vetted prior to adding them to the itinerary to ensure their fair treatment.

We are proud supporters of Make Some Noise, a charity that supports small but brilliant charities across the UK, which help youngsters and their families living with illness, disability or lack of opportunity. In support of such a wonderful charity, we donate prizes, financial aid, and our staff donate their time for fundraising.

Social responsibility

Any social or political issues are carefully monitored on a regular basis. This information is included within the pre-tour information.

In our responsible travel policy, we do mention how we encourage travellers to reduce their impact on the negative effects on local culture.

Our groups often meet local people, and at times, minority groups. We are very careful so as not to upset or disrupt the careful relationship that exists in this circumstance. We encourage all of staff and customers to be respectful and observe any cultures and customs which are different to our own. This will always be covered within the pre-tour information.
