Reviews for Swiss Alps walking holiday, Jungfrau Peaks & Glaciers walk

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Having lunch under a tree in a flower-filled meadow at about 1500m, gazing at the sheer face of the Monch with its ribbon waterfalls cascading down. We'd met no one on the walk, the little chalet in the field was empty; all we could hear was birdsong and rippling water. Magical.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

1 Buy a Swiss Card (before you book the train from Zurich to Interlaken!) and get reduced travel costs. We hadn't known about it and also didn't realise beforehand how much we would use the rail system. Switzerland is expensive and this card makes visits to Jungfraujoch, Kleine Scheidegg and Schiltorn much more affordable. 2 We found Nordic walking sticks useful, for the long descents in particular (we're fit but in our 50s). 3 Walk to the Monchhutte if you go to the Jungfraujoch. It's a great hike, with views of the beginning of the glacier, and you can have hot soup when you get there! 4 Have breakfast in the Schilthorn restaurant (the hotel in Murren will give you a voucher for it). It was wonderful. We stayed 3 hours. 5 Take a mini kettle or a flask if you like a hot drink in your room. Only the Baeren hotel in Wilderswil provided one (and only once, not with the room on the first night). 6 Don't assume there will be a fridge in the room for your packed lunch/wine/beer. Only the Wilderswil and Murren hotels had fridges; the Grindelwald and Wengen ones didn't.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

I don't feel that what we did had any negative environmental impact and we certainly contributed to local businesses!

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Fantastic! It was well organised, the hotels were great, the food superb and - outside of our control but even so - the weather was perfect. The views along the walks were as good as the notes promised. There was plenty of choice of things to do on the non-walking days - we usually ended up walking somewhere!
