Reviews for Scotland craft weekends, felt making & natural dyeing

review 17 Jun 2014

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The location was superb with amazing views overlooking the glen. We learned fascinating traditional skills, collecting lichens and bracken fronds from the woods and making up a wide range of natural dyes, using open wood fires. We dyed fleeces and fabric, mixing our colours, which were astonishingly vibrant and ready to take on to the next step for spinning or felting. Rosie and her family were very welcoming and gave us wonderful outdoor lunches.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Bring sensible outdoor clothing and boots - Scottish weather is always changing. the midges were not a bother - honest! Take time to explore the surrounding glens when in the area.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

The lifestyle of the workshop facilitator was mindful of self-sufficiency and environmental impact, living 'off-grid', composting toilet and natural spring water on site. Our lunches were either home grown or locally sourced. nearby accommodation providers supported the local economy.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

A wonderful, inspiring experience in a beautiful part of our country.
