Reviews for Iceland holiday, Summer Solstice

review 10 Jul 2015

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Scenic beauty and eco-systems are two sides of the same coin. The clean air, the lakes, the falls, the lava fields, the glaciers. How does such stark and panoramic landscape co-exist with spectacular sights in Northern Iceland?

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

For the above 50s age group, a fair bit of walking on uneven tracks, but worth it! If you're doing the Highlands (as this trip was titled)be prepared that late summer onset can mean that the snow on the slopes might mean that the roads are closed-as it happened to us. Now no one can do anything about this, but we must be told in advance of the possibility. If people have planned this trip around the Highland experience, that's only fair! Cooking (or helping, since I don't cook to save my life!) was fun and I did notice that my sleeping bag was new (appreciated that!). Carry a trekking stick even if its not on the check-list given.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Perhaps in terms of what I hope to write, yes! But, apart from being aware of the fragility of the eco-system, it sounds a bit presumptuous to say yes, yes, yes to the three things you ask-certainly not on a 6 day stretch!

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Lovely experience, competent and painstaking guide in Emma.
