1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Either climbing the Volcano on Fogo or walking up the valleys on Sao Antao. Two very different experiences but both were wonderful (and hard work).

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Be aware of how much walking (uphill) there is. Each day on Sao Antao you will walk 8 km, 800m up, and it will take 8 hours. Rewarding and wonderful but just be prepared.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes. Our guides were all local, the accommodation was locally owned and we interacted (through our guides) with local people. Especially on Fogo and Sao Antoa/Sao Vincent. I'm not sure it can be done but somehow using less bottled water would be good - to reduce the plastic.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

5 stars. We had a wonderful time. The guides were excellent, especially Claudio on Sao Antao and Sao Vincent. The walking was amazing and we learned so much about these unique islands. The islands need tourism, but this sort of tourism not the package holidays which stay in international 5 star hotels.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The most exciting part was the visit to Fogo Island especially the Caldera. We also enjoyed Cidade Velha and Tarrafal.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

We would advice them to travel earlier in season. In April the weather is already too hot. People should be aware that English is not prevalent, standard of life is low and life may be rough.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Our visit benefited local people -absolutely.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Very interesting and educational. We feel we would like to return to Cape Verde in order to see the other Islands including Brava. We would like to visit Fogo Islands once again.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The 4 x 4 journey to Tarrafal on Day 2 with a daredevil driver! The volcanic scenery was spectacular, and there were beautiful beaches with abundant marine life. We really enjoyed the long discussions we had with Lidiana, the tour organiser.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Take a sense of humour and a relaxed attitude - then you won't be worried by lack of information about the trip and lack of warning about what the facilities will be like.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes - our organiser donated money from the sum that we paid for the holiday to a local school. We employed local guides and stayed in relatively modest (sometimes very modest) guesthouses. And we stayed in an eco-hotel, which was a great experience.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

It was very different from anything else we have experienced, as it was tailor-made rather than being for an organised group. From the first welcome at the airport, the organiser, was extremely friendly and helpful, and went out of her way to make us feel welcome.
