Reviews for India Moghul highlights holiday

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The weather was unseasonably cold so seeing the Taj Mahal in fog was unexpected! The mini Taj was beautiful, fatephur sikr amazing (despite the cold). The village unforgettable not least for the smiles and hospitality. Every day brought more wonderful experiences. Riding an elephant at the Amber fort was excellent. Accidentally meeting the Marjarah and his wife at Karauli and not realising it when he said he was the manager of the estate-a charming couple. Kids of Karauli treating us as celebs, all these helped us feel warmer than the weather.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Keep any small notes as 'toilet tokens', be prepared to tip well, most people have nothing and however poor you are you are comparatively rich, you can afford to be generous - I found a mean attitude of some of my group distressing and uncomfortable at times. Just smile and interact with the locals-they are delightful- except it can be difficult getting on and off tourist buses. Take wet wipes and antibacterial gel, but don't over worry about Delhi belly- very few people had any trouble.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Yes but mainly as our tour guide used guides at the temples, palaces and forts, used local restaurants and obviously tipped wherever he could. Impact on environment harder to evaluate as obviously we were using power and water resources heavily compared to locals.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Excellent- India a revelation but too many of my group though were whiney and expected western style standards. Weather was awful but guide great (if long winded!) and wanted us to share his country. The staff in hotels are wonderful if idiosyncratic. They want to help but sort of charmingly fail. Wouldn't have missed this for the world. Special thanks to Gordham for taking Pat and I on a shopping trip in Jaiphur, the tuk tuk and rickshaw ride at dusk was a better thrill than anything else on the trip. Thank you so much!!!!
