1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Everything: unbelievable scenery; what's left of an amazing culture of architecture, music, dance, and Buddhist sculpture and painting; stoic Tibetan people. It's a stunningly and unremittingly harsh yet astoundingly beautiful environment. We had a great guide, excellent driver: this got us through the bureaucratic and security barriers with ease. They did all they could to assist us to see we saw what we wanted to see.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Do it. It's one of the world's great experiences, but expect the view around every corner to be better than the last. It's visual overload. If you're going to Tibet, use this operator in Kathmandu. The service from Roka and Rajendra was excellent - nothing was too much trouble and the trip was totally hassle free. Do at least one way driving from Kathmandu - Lhasa: don't fly in and fly out. The scenery is unbelievable - mountain after mountain in and out od snow, in every imaginable colour. If you drive Kathmandu - Lhasa be careful the second day. You go from 2700 metres to over 5000 metres quite fast, and spend the night at over 4300 metres. Drink lots of water, little exertion, take a diamox beforehand if you think altitude sickness might hit you. Don't take a Lonely Planet - it will be confiscated. Read up before you book on what you want to see in the way of towns, monasteries etc and discuss this with the tour company. Advance notice and Public Security Bureau permits are needed for everywhere, and anywhere off the main highway may not be accessible at short notice.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

I doubt very much that much in Tibet benefits Tibetans any more. Our guide and driver, who were both excellent, were from a Tibetan owned and staffed company: there was that. After living in Nepal for the past 2 years the general cleanliness, fresh air, and care for the environment everywhere we went in Tibet was a happy experience.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Excellent, exciting, a little bit tiring but worth every second. We'll be back - using this tour operator, but maybe next time head west to Kailash.
