1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

It is hard to pick out a highlight as it was all highly enjoyable. The overnight train from Moscow to St Petersburg was memorable as was seeing Lenin in his mausoleum lying in state. Local guides were very good and informative about Russian history and contemporary Russia

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Be prepared for quite a bit of walking and quite a hectic schedule, although you do get some time to yourself if you want. Russians are friendly if you smile first! The tour leader Maria was very good and fun at the same time. Our group were predominately Australians , two solo American women, and our group of 4 English and there was a good group dynamic and range of ages from 16 to 66 years old. You have to make an effort to get along on these types of trips as you have a couple of longish journeys and don't take much luggage. Major tip is buy your ticket from the hermitage wing (general staff building) no queues!!

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Refills of water bottles was available in most hotels so plastic was cut down. We visited a communal flat and also a house in Suzdal which felt like you benefited local people.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Very good - apart from one hotel where we had to change room as it was baking. Would give it 4.5 out of 5. but option only says 5 or 4 below.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Sites, local families, banya. Not sure I'd repeat the banya experience but glad I had it!

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

If you want to see Moscow and St Petersburg then have a couple of days at either end of the trip as you can't scratch the surface with 1 day in each city.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes as local guides and families used. Used public transport where reasonable.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Good trip and some interesting experiences but very glad I had extra days at both end of the trip to see St Petersburg and Moscow as otherwise would have missed a lot.

The new friends that I've made, interesting sites and history that I've discovered.

Not to bother with travellerís cheques or American dollars as recommended in the travel notes as they are a massive problem to exchange. Atm's are available everywhere.

Yes

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

8.5 out of 10
