1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Cycling through small towns in the countryside, probably wouldn't be able to visit them otherwise.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Take warm clothes.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

It was great, the itinerary was very interesting and mixed both cycling through the countryside and small villages and visiting larger towns, like Dijon and Beaune. The guide and the crew were extremely helpful and friendly.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The formula barge and bike is perfect. You can go biking in the day, have a restful time in the evening and nights and enjoy travelling across the country.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Practise your English a little before you go on the trip if it's rusty and you're not a native speaker. It's so much easier to communicate !

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

That's most certainly one of the ideas the trip gives precedence to with this "barge and bike travel".

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Great.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

In the morning of Day 6 we drove along a Canal, the sun was shining and the Autumn Trees were reflecting in the water - that was the best part of the trip. The Crew (Skipper, Chef and Host) were really nice. The food was excellent.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Cabins are extremely small (about 4m2). The trip did not take place as described in the trip notes. Also, it asked a different level of fitness as you described it on your web site, as it contained 3 trips of 60 km and not only one. Some of the bikes were in poor condition. I expected to drive along the Canals more, that was only done very rarely and I didn't expect to ride over hills while booking a boat & barge tour.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

We ate on the boat, so at least the french Government and Shops benefited from the group. We rode bicycles and therefore didn't pollute the air. We helped to bring life back to a more and more deserted area. We were introduced to little projects (restoration of an old ship, restoration of a castle) that we were asked to support.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

It was a very small group of very nice people, mostly from overseas. The food was excellent and Silvie, the host, tried to make us all feel comfortable and was the heart and the soul of the trip. However, the Tour Guide was sometimes inflexible and could not/would not make any amendments to her programme.

Thank you for choosing to travel with us in France and for taking the time to provide feedback. We were pleased that you enjoyed some aspects of your trip with us, but we were disappointed to hear about your concerns with the amount of cycling and the tour guide. We are liaising with our partner to determine what transpired during your trip. This bike and barge trip is a long time favourite with our cyclists and one from which we have generally received glowing reviews. The cycle distances are given as a guide however we would not expect this variation to be more than 10km without some explanation. We will be conducting a thorough investigation as to why your trip did not meet our usual high standards and will be in touch with you directly to rectify this matter.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Completing 60k! I never cycled 60k before!

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

I would advise them that the cabins are extremely small with very little hanging space for anything. So bring minimal amount of clothes & shower gel!

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Not particularly.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

I thoroughly enjoyed the holiday & the food & cycling were excellent. The hosts on the barge are slightly eccentric.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Biking through the towns with our tour guide, Inka, who was an exceptional leader. The ride was challenging, leisurely, and culturally rewarding!

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Be aware that the accommodations aboard the barge in the cabins are VERY limiting and small. I had a single that was for two people but with one, the space was limiting.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Using bikes prevented auto pollution!

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Very enjoyable.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Cycling up to Sancerre laden with wine I had bought at a tasting but being rewarded for the hard climb with a fantastic view from the top and later drinking the wine at dinner!

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Travel light. There isn't much space in the cabins and you don't need loads of evening clothes. However pack a jumper as in early September it was a bit chilly sitting outside in the evenings.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Our trip included stops every day for coffee and cake shop stops. We also visited castles, a garden etc.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

I really enjoyed the holiday. All 18 of us got on very well and each day's cycling was just the right amount of cycling and sight-seeing. Martin & Marjorie's hospitality and food were excellent. Our cycle guide, Yon Willan (sorry - don't know spelling) was fantastic and I will miss having him around!
