Reviews for Khopra Community trek in Nepal

review 8 May 2011

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

We loved all of our holiday - the tour of Kathmandu, chilling by the lake in Pokhara and of course trekking up to the Annapurna Sanctuary for the early morning view of all the mountains. We'll also never forget playing snooker on a full sized snooker table in a coffee shop basement in Chomrong (how they got it up there we still have no idea)

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

We didn't take enough money on the actual trek (thinking there would be limited things to spend money on). Its actually very surprising how many opportunities there are to buy local handicrafts etc in the middle of nowhere

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Yes – the tour operator of this holiday do everything to ensure that the tourist dollar is spread around, they use green/organic businesses/services and made sure that we were well informed on ways that we could reduce the impact on the environment.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Brilliant!! Our full review: We are so glad we booked out trek with this operator; from the minute we left the airport to the minute we were dropped back there, we always felt looked after. The personal level of service was second to none, both from the team in Kathmandu and our guide and porter in the mountains. Pemba and Dugee were a hilarious pair who kept sprits high as we trekked and we very attentive in the lodges each evening, taking food orders and bringing us tea each morning – not what we were expecting at all. Both hotels (Samsara & Barahi) were great although for different reasons; Samsara was clean and tidy and wonderfully central for all the facilities in Kathmandu and Barahi was a little bit of luxury before and after the trek – returning to a large, clean, tidy room and spa facilities was wonderful. The transfers to and from the airport were a nice touch and helped link all parts of the trip together – the only issue here was that both transfers to and from Pokhara departed early leaving us waiting at the airport for the driver at the other end – but we can’t really complain about being early so it really is a minor issue. Perhaps giving out the drivers phone number might be an option here? The biggest surprise was probably the level of hospitality of the welcome and farewell dinners. It was a brilliant start to the trip having dinner with a group of other new arrivals who we subsequently bumped into in the mountains. The farewell meal at Delice de France was excellent – wonderful food, buzzing atmosphere and great live music. Overall we had an amazing holiday. This was partly down to the breathtaking scenery of the mountains, the beauty of lakeside Pokhara and the bustling excitement of Kathmandu, but mostly down to the quality of service provided by the operator who made the task of trekking for 11 days a really comfortable, relaxing and enjoyable experience. Thank you very much!
