Reviews for Chomolhari trekking holiday, Bhutan

review 13 Nov 2008

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Lots. The friendly people who seemed enjoyed to have their photo's taken. The scenery, the hundreds of prayer flags. As we trekked at high altitude, the many people we met driving horses, cows & yaks. But the best experience was caused by a mistake. On one night of the trek we lost our horses & luggage! Our clean socks & toothbrush went one way & we went another. Our guide rescued the situation by arranging us to stay in a yak-herders hut. The family very kindly took us in & we dried our cloths (we had been in a freak show storm) on a fire fuelled by wood & yak dung. This incident is a story by itself.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Don't pick a fight with a yak! Treat with great respect. Apart from that, the best tip I can give to people is to go to Bhutan.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Yes. We certainly toured the markets & bought material from local traders. We bought off people who came to our tents. As far as we could see, no rubbish was left behind after we broke camp.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

The freak snow storm meant that we couldn't complete the trek - but it still became a great holiday. The guides couldn’t do anything else.
