1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
The hikes around Lake Como and Cascina Rodiana itself. The house is amazing and the owners have put a lot of effort and energy in renovating it, thinking about environmental aspects and interesting little details (check out the window shutters) in doing that. I stayed in the old part of the house with a lovely spot of a big fireplace and a small window which was a perfect place to read. During nighttime, the high windows closed so that the room became completely dark and in a super-comfortable bed, good sleep was guaranteed. The property itself is a pearl: olive trees, chestnut trees, paw-paw trees, terraces and a direct access to the Sancturay and several treks. Cascina Rodiana is in the park and you can take great walks, some of which will actually lead you to Como. The owners will provide with a lot of helpful information and maps.2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Pay attention to the house and how it has been renovated; enjoy the breakfast with all local products (especially the chestnut honey and local cheese); take the best out of walking and actually hike to Lake Como (about 3,5 hours); enjoy a glass of local wine and cheese on the stone table outside the Cascina; do not make too much noise; and pay attention to how the windows open in the bathrooms.3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes. You can see that in every little aspect: reusing the water, local food, recycled paper, etc. Moreover, I enjoyed a great meal in a recognized high cuisine restaurant in Switzerland (7 ,minutes from Cascina) which prides itself in preparing dishes out of local products and the results are amazing (www.vecchiaosteria.com).4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
It has been one of the best short holidays I have had. I recommend the place to everyone who is looking forward to hiking, loves renovated houses and respects the environment and ecological approach the owners are taking.Accommodation Reviews
