1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

We loved sitting on the balcony, enjoying the views.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

There are so many gongs to do in the area. We liked Zwiesel swimming pool, the many playgrounds and the Glass Museum at Frauena and the National Forest parks.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

The GUTi card giving us free public transport was brilliant. We loved the Waldbahn.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

We had a great time - active, varied, lots of fresh air and lots of ice cream.

Read the operator's response here:

Dear Carolyn Ulrike and I are glad you and your family enjoyed your time in Forsthaus apartment. We cannot always guarantee the lovely weather but the views and things to do and see in the area are always there winter or summer. The Guti card is an excellent service which we supported when it was being introduced some years ago and it has been enjoyed by all our guests. Best wishes Martin & Ulrike

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The wonderful location of Bayerisch Eisenstein and the accommodation. The apartment we chose was on the ground floor and we had access to a beautiful, lush and quiet garden. We walked for many hours every day and then spent a restful couple of hours eating lunch al fresco and reading. Everything we could have possibly wished for was provided for us.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

If you are taking the train from Prague, as we did, check your train tickets for carriage and seat numbers and also remember that Bayerisch Eisenstein is at the end of the Czech border and the beginning of the Bavarian border therefore Bayerisch is not signposted at the station in German. We were told to get off the train not really knowing where we were. Also when we travelled there were repairs on the line near Pilsen and we had to get off the train and onto a bus for 35 mins before rejoining another train. Not a problem but was a bit daunting not knowing why. Apart from that we used the public transport whilst in the village and it all worked out great. Loved the Wald Bahn!

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Most definately. Organic produce was provided where possible as well as organic cleaning products, hand gels, shower gels, loo rolls and tea bags.We were advised on how to recycle everything and the availability of bins, recycling boxes etc was excellent. We ate in the excellent village restaurants, bought packed lunches from local shops, bought local produce as souvenirs to bring home and used the bag left for us in the apartment so we didn't need to use plastic bags at all.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

This is the perfect place for a walking and cycling retreat. A 5 star holiday indeed!

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The village was very beautiful and the hosts friendly and welcoming. The opportunities to enjoy the natural environment were abundant. We especially loved our walks and bike rides through the forest. We also loved the easy access to homemade bread and foods in the freezer.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Plan to spend 5 or more days. Felt our time was too short.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes. The information provided and focus of the host made us much more aware of ways to reduce our consumption and protect the environment.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Excellent.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Cycling and walking in the Bavarian forest.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Take the opera unity to see the Czech Republic and Austria, enjoy local walks and make use of the forest's extensive cycle paths. We borrowed bikes from our hosts. Passau and Regensberg are also well worth a visit. Having English speaking hosts was very beneficial as little English is spoken here as they have typed English directions for walks and suggestions for days out. Having members of our family able to speak some German was a huge benefit. It was refreshing to come to an area which is typically German.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

It is easy to travel here by train and our hosts were helpful with suggestions. Local transport was good enough for all our needs and very cheap. We used local small shops and restaurants. Our hosts made recycling easy.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

An excellent holiday thoroughly enjoyed by both adults and children aged between 9 and 16 years. This holiday can be as active or as relaxing as you want to make it and I would recommend it as a great sightseeing or holiday for couples or families.
