Reviews for South Downs Way walking holiday, England

review 2 Oct 2020

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The section of the walk along the Kent Coast Path through Dungeness - an extraordinary landscape with the added bonus of passing Prospect Cottage - Derek Jarman's former home and garden. The Path goes through a huge variety of landscapes.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

If you have the OS maps, you can vary the route by taking more congenial off road footpaths in places where the official Path just follows the main road. If starting from Rye, don't be tempted to take the bus to the start of the Path in Camber. It's a lovely walk.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

At a time of COVID, it obviously benefited local accommodation providers and small businesses to have visitors again. I used public transport to get to the starting and end points.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Very enjoyable and well organised, especially given the short notice. The information provided by the operator was excellent. Some bad weather meant that two sections of the walk over the cliffs could not be completed (reason for the 4 star rather than 5).
