1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

SEEING THE ROMAN AQUEDUCT

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

DO NOT COUNT ON GOOD HIKING MAPS OR STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS- IN FACT THE ROUTE GUIDES WERE TERRIBLE AS WAS THE MARKING AND SIGNAGE OF THE TRAILS THEMSELVES. I GOT LOST MANY TIMES AND ACTUALLY ENDED UP IN THE WRONG TOWN THE FIRST DAY WHICH MADE FOR A VERY LONG HIKING DAY. YOU WILL BE BETTER OFF JUST TAKING LOCAL ROADS UP INTO THE MOUNTAINS AND AVOIDING ANY FOREST TRAILS.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

NO

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

WOULD NOT DO IT AGAIN.

Read the operator's response here:

We are very sorry that Mr. Slezac did not fully enjoy his holiday and I do apologise for the inconveniences he encountered. This tour, is an ‘off the beaten track’ tour, as are our other tours. It makes use of existing pathways, often without signage since used mainly by the locals that know them by heart. We supply a detailed route description and a map of the region and check the trails regularly to ensure they are up to date. We would recommend hikers for this trip to be able to read the map and use it for orientation while following the route descriptionThe locals who run the lodgings you stay in always show the utmost availability in giving you a hand when needed, as they did with Mr. Slezac. As far as resposible tourism is concerned; We create our tours; ‘to experience instead of consume’ we offer only indivual hiking tours with low impact on the environment, we give background information about history, tradition, wildlife and plants in order to help hikers to understand and respect the environment and the historical artefacts and offer overnight stays in small, family-run lodgings helping thus the local economy. Two nights on this tour are in an centuries old ‘podere’ which has its own olive groves and produces in an organic way olive oil. When Mr. Slezac was there when the only concert of the Rolling Stones in Italy took place in Lucca and the region were ‘invaded’ by visitors of this concert, what might have given a different idea of the frequentation of the area. We will certainly check trails again soon and will try to optimise the description as good as we can in light of the feedback received.
