Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

Protecting and preserving our beautiful environment is central to our approach at Stopham Vineyard.

Our sustainability is important to our business and our customers - not just from an ethical perspective, but also to maintain a natural ecosystem that is best for our vines and, ultimately, our wine.

We are lucky to work within an area of outstanding natural beauty in the South Downs National Park. We can't miss the daily reminder of how important it is to respect and protect the environment on which we depend.

That is why we consider the sustainability of every decision we make at Stopham Vineyard from protecting the local River Arun to caring and nurturing the soil. We actively promote a healthy and diverse ecosystem and has resulted in planting a traditional hedge, cultivating wild flower areas and providing paths for nature through the vineyard.

Detailed information about our sustainability policy can be seen on our website.

The Impacts of this Trip

We have transformed the fallow ragwort infested field with to a beautiful vineyard. We have renovated the old farm buildings including the 1860 Grade II listed barn, which was previously dilapidated. Renovated with many of the original materials, this now is the winery.

We employ staff from within our community at Stopham for work both in the vineyard and winery. We support the local enterprises, including the Stopham pub (The White Hart) for lunch before or after their tour.

We support the south-east division of the RSPB and the local Pulborough Brooks reserve and run RSPB. We run nature and wine tours in conjunction with them which raises money for their charity work with helping to protect habitats.

We employ 2 people full-time and up to 10 people part-time. We have a flexible working scheme and support staff in their studies at Brinsbury College or Plumpton Agricultural college.

Our investment into Stopham is attracting other businesses, including another wine business and this has led to the potential for other dilapidated buildings to be done up.
