Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

Environment
We are dedicated to preserving Steyning and the beautiful South Downs countryside which surrounds the town.

We reduce our waste as much as possible, working with the local council to recycle everything that can be. As a retailer we produce a vast amount of cardboard so we have invested in a baler. The compacted cardboard is then taken away to be recycled, often as animal bedding.

Our biggest contribution to the environment is sourcing our products from local farmers and producers whenever we possibly can. We work with over 70 local suppliers including; Daylands Farm in Ashurst (vegetables), Southview Farm Dairy near Pulborough (milk), Steyning's very own Adur Brewery (top quality beer!) and the award-winning High Weald Dairy (cheese). By investing in local producers such as these, we help sustain a thriving local economy and make the area a real 'destination' for tourists - as well as a great place to live!
Community

The Impacts of this Trip

Supporting our local community is hugely important to us as without them our business simply wouldn't survive.

We are a member of The Steyning Business Chamber, an organisation that works together to promote local businesses in the town and who, amongst other things, works hard to organise the two main fairs in Steyning - the May Fair & the Christmas Fair. These are hugely popular events drawing thousands of people into the town. We regularly sponsor the fairs to help ensure they continue to provide such a great day out for everyone.

We run a charity of the month scheme, hosting a fundraising dinner where we donate 5 a head to that month's charity. This is supplemented with collection tins at the tills for the duration of the month and a 50 hamper for the charity to auction off during their fundraising dinner.

We also hold a great number of events in our cafe providing a fun night out for all who attend. We've had wine tastings, opera nights and also work with the fabulous Steyning Bookshop providing a venue for their 'meet the author' evenings.

We are also proud to be one of the biggest employers in Steyning.
