1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
Too many to single out the one! The Simien Mountains were breathtaking and the lodge is a haven. Lalibela lives up to and surpasses expectations - we were very lucky to see two important festivals taking part in the churches - that was incredibly special to see the churches as living places of worship and not mere tourist sites.
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Get out of the minibus and meet the people. Ethiopia is an extraordinary country, with a deep, rich heritage and Ethiopians are incredibly civilised, dignified and welcoming. It really is worthwhile spending some time with them, you will learn a lot - about the country, yourself and humanity.
3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?
Yes - on an economic level it certainly benefitted local people. Re the environment - I think you should boycott hotels such as the Mountain View in Lalibela should they open up a swimming pool as suggested. Deeply inappropriate when the town has significant water issues.
4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
One of the best trips of my life. A brilliant country but the trip was really made by our agent, Eskinder. I cannot stress how professional and considerate he was throughout the holiday.
