Jungle conservation & research, Peru
Memorable parts? Getting to spend time walking through the jungle and seeing so many great animals and birds. The best moments were the tree frogs, manu poison frog and the rainbow boa! I really enjoyed the construction of the bird hides and biogarden even though sometimes it was really hard work! Pancakes for breakfast were great! Tips? There was a lot of walking and physical activity so it’s really important to expect to do lots when you get there and probably need reasonable fitness! Local... (more)Melanie Veal

Volunteering with bears in Cambodia
I loved every second of my trip - the people, the country, the bears I worked with... (more)Louise Bednarz
Meeting the bears and being able to really make a difference to their day-to-day lives with enrichment, feeding and cleaning; some of the things we were doing (such as enrichment to keep the bears active and happy) wouldn't get done unless we were there to help out! (more)Heather Reynolds
We were so close to the bears and keepers that you feel part of the project rather than just a short stay helper. I think we were really lucky... to have the baby bear (Lola) arrive when we were there too. (more)Anon

Volunteering with bears in Romania
Fantastic and didn't want to leave. Definitely would like to go back again and stay longer! Everyone was wonderful...top would be watching the bears play in the water, eat, and just enjoying the fact that they now lead a happy life thanks to those that have rescued them and look after them. (more)Amanda Hathway
Everything. I loved every moment of it! As an animal lover, just being able to see so many bears interacting with each other and living freely in such a fantastic sanctuary was an experience I won't ever forget! (more)Chloe Grable

Volunteering in Thailand, wildlife rescue centre
I went to the Wildlife Rescue Centre in Thailand, this was a fantastic project helping animals who had been mostly kept as pets. It’s hard to say what was the most memorable part of this holiday as there was so much variety and different experiences, it’s difficult to decide what was the best part of it. (more)Cathy Bisset
I had so many fantastic experiences, and the centre itself was in an idyllic area, on the grounds of a Buddhist temple. One highlight was spotting wild elephants in a nearby national park, after dark. (more)Olly Carney

The most memorable part of the holiday was being in a community without feeling like an outsider. Everyone was willing to help and also be open about their lives. I loved everything about the experience. (more)Christina Hanazawa
The most memorable parts were the women I met and worked with as a volunteer in Uganda. The women were strong, resilient, courageous, determined and inspirational. Our two weeks voluntary work in Uganda flew by with so many highlights, it is impossible to name even a few. The people, their positive attitudes and their willingness to learn, the scenery and of course the gorillas. (more)Jennifer Soddy

Memorable parts? Riding an elephant! Tips? Prepare for hot weather and brush up on Thai etiquette (for instance, taking off footwear in someone's house.) Apart from that, just expect to have a wonderful time. Local benefits? All three, I hope but I noticed particularly, that the children appreciated hearing English from a native speaker. Overall rating? Fantastic! The perfect balance between worthwhile activity and leisure. (more)Anne Rock

Summer camp in Thailand, teaching English
Memorable parts? There are so many to choose from, but the most memorable has to be when we visited the mainland to teach in a Thai school. The children were not used to foreigners and were really excited to see us, they had us signing autographs and posing for lots of photos!! The most memorable part of the holiday has got to be the people. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly throughout my stay. The most exciting part was riding in the local buses, you get to see the city, meet local people and really immerse yourself in Malawi! (more)Emma Daw

to name but a few... hearing Bella the lion's roar all the way from the volunteer house and seeing her purrs and rolls of pleasure when you visit her enclosure. Teach children swimming in India
Memorable parts? The best memory was the last day, probably, when I said goodbye to the children I've been teaching for almost 3 weeks. I could feel how much affection and trust had been given to me, and I really felt very emotional when I left. Tips? Especially to the young travellers: Remember that this is about volunteering. The rest is secondary. Yet the staff at the volunteer camp is exceptionally available, helpful and trying to make our life easy and also enjoyable. But still.... (more)Patricia Quillacq

Ensure you learn some Kiswahili before you go, especially if you have no medical training yet. Local benefits? Thailand marine conservation and diving holiday
Memorable parts? The diving on Sail Rock, probably one of the best dive sites in the Gulf of Thailand Tips? This is a small village with basic amenities so be prepared to take it easy and relax as there is a lot of down time where nothing is happening. If you get bored easily then make sure you have brought things to occupy your time or better still make an effort to get out and about the island. Local benefits? Rainforest expedition in Costa Rica
Memorable parts? Three hours into a long, dark, sweaty walk on my first turtle survey a mighty Leatherback turtle suddenly looms into view on the beach ahead. We crouch down out of sight behind her and count the number of eggs she lays into a pit in the sand. When she’s done we tag a rear flipper for tracking purposes, take her measurements and record other data. Having covered the nest she doesn’t wait around. Hauling herself back down the beach she slips back into the ocean. We’re all... (more)Dominic Greves
