Once Orton King hunted turtles... Now he saves them.

The Old Hegg Turtle Sanctuary he established at Park Beach is a major force for the preservation of Hawksbill Turtles throughout the Caribbean.

Young Hawksbill Turtle at Bequia Turtle Sanctuary
"My project involves monitoring beaches, checking nests, trying to protect mother turtles and eggs from poachers, collecting hatchlings, and taking them to my sanctuary to keep them safe during the most vulnerable years of their life."
Orton "Brother" King, Old Hegg Turtle Sanctuary
The hatchlings are kept in a series of tanks for the first three years of their lives.

This radically increases the number likely to reach adult hood. Over 2000 turtles have so far been released back into the sea.

Visitors to the Turtle Sanctuary are welcome and Orton is enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge and passion for preserving these endangered animals.
