Our Unusual holidays & tours

Who’d have thought you could do that? That’s the question we hope our unusual holidays will prompt. And the answer, we hope, is: “Not me, but why not?” These are adventures for those passionate about their interests – or passionate about finding new ones to enjoy for years to come. Our holidays might include activities as diverse as salsa dancing in Cuba, driving a tuk tuk around Thailand, kayaking in search of Komodo dragons in Indonesia, or travelling halfway across the world by train... wherever they take you in this big, weird wide world of ours, these unusual holidays introduce you to new landscapes and different ways of life, while remaining respectful of both.

About our unusual holidays

Helping you step out of your comfort zone

We think unusual holidays should be about venturing outside your comfort zone (even if it’s just a small step to begin with) and learning what’s possible beyond the holidays you’re used to. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that ‘unusual’ means extreme – but our trips do all come with a generous helping of adventure. Best of all, we’ll help you see the world from different points of views, through memorable moments with local people and with new friends as passionate as you are about travelling off the beaten track.

Ditch the tourist trail

Our holiday experts create out-of-the-ordinary experiences in places well off the usual tourist map. That might be the wilderness of Mongolia, where you can stay in a yurt and spend time with eagle hunters. Or tiny but beautiful Montenegro, which neighbours Croatia but welcomes a fraction of the visitors to its mountains paths, pelican lakes, and rafting rivers. We help you find the needles in the haystack by tracking down unusual destinations that aren’t just off the regular tourist trail, but also have their responsible travel credentials in place.

For families

Unusual family holidays begin at home, when you gather around the computer to see whose eyes light up at where, and what, and start making notes. Whatever you end up doing – watersports, walking or winter wilderness – we recommend travelling with our family holiday experts. They’re happy to share their knowledge about travelling in China, kayaking in Croatia, or hiking with a mule in the French Alps. They also really get family requirements and will bend over backwards to ensure everyone from big to little has the time of their life.

Will it be a yurt or an aurora cabin?

We love showing off unusual places to stay. That’s not only because they spark the imagination, but because they’re run by people with deep connections to their local environment and culture, and who are keen to protect both. We have treehouses and yurts, houseboats and ice hotels, and welcoming homestays from Kerala to Costa Rica. As more people take an interest in finding unusual places to stay on holiday, growing numbers of accommodation rise up to meet them. The places we work with emphasise sustainability throughout your stay – because they believe in it.

Fantastic experiences. Whale and dolphin watching, kayaking across the lakes, bathing in the hot springs, chances to make memories as a family. An amazing trip for us as a family with the chance to experience things that my children really wanted to do. We loved it and would definitely return.read more

You have to be prepared to go with the flow, at donkey's pace - but for my 9 year old daughter, who is a reluctant walker, it was the best thing in the world to see her getting up early by choice to get donkey ready, and enjoying time in nature... A perfect holiday!read more
