La Gomera is for anyone looking for something different and special for their holiday. The charms of this magical island, whose landscape comes straight out of the beginning of time, enchants the visitor from the first moment. From then on peace and quiet prevail, while the visitor can enjoy its ecological delights, its customs, established since time immemorial among its hospitable people, its traditional cuisine or the vestiges of a history very closely associated with the South American continent. La Gomera´s position in the Canarian Archipelago lies between the islands of Tenerife, La Palma and El Hierro (you can see both from the houses). There is an undulating meseta in the centre of the island, from which deep ravines go down towards the craggy coastline and beaches of the island. The Garajonay National Park (since 1986 protected area from UNESCO – as the biggest laurel forest in Europe), which occupies the central highland, awaits the visitor with its amazing sea of cloud and exuberant natural habitat.
Please note that these are not beach cottages, they are a 20 minute drive from the beach.

how to find us
Las Hayas is a village in the West of La Gomera. You either go with the ferry from Los Christianos/Tenerife to San Sebastian or Valle Gran Rey. There it is best to hire a car and follow the signs at the side of the road. Direction: Valle Gran Rey. After a ride of app. 1 hour, there will be a sign "Las Hayas" – turn left here. After 5 min. you will reach to Las Hayas (at the bus station – wooden cottage – right hand). In the village you see after 2 min: Bar Montana. There is a parking place in front. Here you will get the key for your cottage. If you go to Valle Gran Rey - get your car there, drive up the valley (main road to San Sebastian – there is just one!) and then turn right the first or second (both ways are fine) sign to Las Hayas until you find the Bar Montana. Please note that these are not beach cottages, they are a 20 minute drive from the beach.

Most memorable was being able to go on hikes through some of the most beautiful landscapes we have seen, followed by swimming in the ocean, while enjoying fantastic weather in Europe in early January. (more)
how this holiday makes a difference
|
We offer you the opportunity of spending your holidays in a restored traditional country house in the unequalled setting of the island of La Gomera and moreover in a peaceful area where the ways of rural life are little changed.
Houses are run and built by local people from the village of La Hayas at the countryside of La Gomera. The Island has a culture completely filled with traditions: cuisine, craftsmanship, folklore, etc., some of which are a direct heritage from our ancestors, "los Guanches", five hundred years ago. In addition in la Gomera you may find archeological remains, traditional architecture and nature at its best. These typical Gomerian houses, which blend in with the landscape are restored and renewed by a local family which has always lived on the island. Close by you find a restaurant run by a local family which serves typical Gomerian food. You must try it! Most of them are equipped with solar panels for heating up the warm water. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
