the amazing things you'll be doing
This multi-activity adventure trip will take you along the Mreznica and Dobra rivers and through Plitvice Lakes National Park. You will explore this unique area on foot, by bike or from a kayak. At every opportunity, our guides will steer you away from civilization - ensuring a truly memorable experience which will stay with you for many years to come. The Mrežnica is considered one of Croatia's cleanest rivers, with plenty of great places to swim, canoe and raft. The river is 64 km long, and is special for its 93 waterfalls and pools of warm water between them: perfect for refreshment away from beach crowds. Clear green water, unspoiled woods and magical landscapes make it one of Croatia’s most desirable continental retreats. At the moment there are preparations being made to declare this area a Nature Park.
The accommodation is a friendly, family-run, 3 star hotel on the bank of Mreznica River, approximately one hour drive from Zagreb and Rijeka airports. The restaurant overlooks an old mill close to a small waterfall and serves freshly caught fish, as well as home-grown vegetables. Barbecues are also a specialty of the house and make for a convivial end to the day's activities. All rooms are equipped with en suite bathrooms, TV, mini bar, telephone and have Internet access.
Please note: The itinerary is subject to change depending on group abilities and wishes, weather, water levels, special events of interest and similar.

day-by-day itinerary
| Day 1: | Saturday transfer from Zagreb or Rijeka airport to your hotel in Zvecaj village. The hotel is located by the river, deep in the countryside. After settling into your room, meet the other members of the group over dinner. |
| Day 2: | Rafting on the Dobra, a dam controlled safe river with class I-III rapids. It winds through beautiful fields and forests and offers plenty of opportunities to swim, relax and enjoy the scenery. (In case of low water levels, the excursion may be transferred to Mreznica River). |
| Day 3: | Kayak/canoe instructions after which you will begin the trip along a section of Mreznica River. Mreznica is a typical ‘karst’ river with numerous travertine waterfalls interspersed with calm, clear water - perfect for a cooling swim. After a light picnic on the bank, paddle back to the hotel. |
| Day 4: | Plitvice Lakes National Parkhiking tour. Visit the 16 lakes and hundreds of waterfalls that this World Heritage Site has to offer. Follow the narrow tracks closed to traffic leading through forests, meadows, hills and along lake shores. We consider this to be one of the most beautiful areas in Europe. |
| Day 5: | Take a bike tour among winding countryside roads, exploring the rustic villages we pass along the way. |
| Day 6: | A paddling expedition down the upper Mreznica River, with lots of swimming. This section is near to the source of the river, and is considered the most beautiful part. We will travel down deep, narrow gorges in a kayak and bypass impressive waterfalls - up to 8 meters high. |
| Day 7: | Relaxing day in a country life atmosphere. Relax by the river or choose between several optional trips. |
| Day 8: | Departure in the morning. |
travellers' tales
Practically all of it however the most exciting part was when we went kayaking on higher waterfalls. We give it a high rate since this was the best holiday we have had, kids loved it as well and we consider re doing it, maybe in a different season. (more)
small group family holiday
This is a 'small group family adventure' - typically you will join several other families and travel in a group of approx. 16 people. The trips are great value and a great way for you and your children to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of time to yourselves. Most adventure kids tend to be aged between 7 and 15, but some are younger (minimum age is usually 5) and some older (perhaps travelling as part of a larger family group). Please check with the operator to confirm the minimum age for this trip how this holiday makes a difference

Community:
By booking this trip you bring much needed income to the people who are still recovering from the war-torn years, as this was the area severely affected by war. This trip ensures that the local people benefit as much as possible in the form of jobs (we employ local guides and drivers) and provision of accommodation (we use family owned hotels or home stays with local family). We also use local transfer services, buy food from the small farms and work on developing responsible waste management by stimulating waste recycle. By buying local products you are supporting this countries’ economy and helping Croatia to stand on her feet again! We consider it our responsibility to lead efforts to maintain and preserve the integrity of this fledgling sector by petitioning the introduction of tighter controls over the use of the country’s natural resources. As a company, we support the local community by building camps in partnership with local families, building bridges and accesses to the rivers. In order to preserve traventine barriers on Zrmanja River we have built wooden detour bridges. We also support an orphan bear shelter in Kutarevo. Zeleni kut is a small family hotel that directly or indirectly employes many local people and in that way is irreplaceable in the community. Our hosts in that small family restaurant prepare breakfasts and barbecue dinners with their own home grown food and fish from their own pond. Environment: On our trips we bike on pawed roads only, walk and hike on bitten paths and admonish our guests not to feed, fish, hunt and disturb animals. In our office we minimize printing actions and recycle paper. Most of all, we ensure that negative environmental impacts are drawn to a minimum. Booking this trip you get to see a whole new perspective of this beautiful part of Croatia by kayaking on the hidden and best preserved parts of the clearest rivers in Croatia. A visit to National Park Plitvice Lakes is included in the program - the fees that we pay to the National Park contribute to the conservation of that area. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
