the amazing things you'll be doing
This multi-activity adventure trip will take you to some of the most beautiful rivers. It includes canoeing and kayaking on Mreznica and Dobra rivers.

We will stay in Zvecaj, small family hotel and well known restaurant situated on the beautiful Mreznica River about one hour drive from Zagreb or Rijeka. Rivers, canyons, forests, country roads, hills and caves in the area provide wonderful settings for adventure, water sports and relaxation. Most rooms have balcony with the view of the river, its island and waterfalls - all at the doorstep. The restaurant usually serves fresh fish from its own fish pond, vegetables and traditional barbecue meals. The rooms are air conditioned and equipped with private bathroom, TV, mini bar and telephone.

Please note: The itinerary is subject to change depending on group abilities and wishes, weather, water levels, special events of interest and similar.
day-by-day itinerary
Day 1:Saturday Transfer from either Zagreb or Rijeka airport to the village of Zvecaj to the hotel, located by the river, deep in the countryside. After settling in to your room, meet the other members of the group over dinner.
Day 2:First kayak/canoe instructions and trip to the upstream Mreznica section. Mreznica is a typical karst river with numerous travertine waterfalls and calm water between them. In summer it is usually warm and pleasant for swimming. After a light picnic by the river we shall paddle to our hotel for riverside barbecue.
Day 3:Expedition into canyon and waterfalls of remote section of Mreznica. This is the most beautiful part of the river, where the water temperature in Summer can reach 25 degrees Celsius. We will travel down deep, narrow canyon and many waterfalls - up to 10 meters high.
Day 4:Visit Plitvice Lakes National Park for hike tour of 16 lakes and hundreds of waterfalls The narrow paved road surrounding the lakes is closed for motor vehicles and most of it leads between forests, meadows, hills and along the lake shores.
Day 5:In the afternoon a bike tour along country roads and villages of the area.
Day 6:Rafting on nearby Dobra River. This is the first and best white water rafting river in Croatia (if the water levels are low and the river too easy for rafting kayaks will make this trip more interesting).
Day 7:Relaxing day in a country life atmosphere. You can take a bicycle tour to other places of interest in the area – or a train ride to Zagreb, the cultural and political center of Croatia.
Day 8:Departure in the morning.
small group family holiday
This is a 'small group family adventure' - typically you will join several other families and travel in a group of approx. 16 people. The trips are great value and a great way for you and your children to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of time to yourselves. Most adventure kids tend to be aged between 7 and 15, but some are younger (minimum age 5) and some older (perhaps travelling as part of a larger family group). Please check with the operator to confirm the minimum age for this trip
how this holiday makes a difference
By booking this trip you bring much needed income to the people who are still recovering from the war-torn years, as this was the area severely affected by war. This trip ensures that the local people benefit as much as possible in the form of jobs (we employ local guides and drivers) and provision of accommodation (we use family owned hotels or home stays with local family) and most of all that negative environmental impacts are drawn to a minimum. We also use local transfer services, buy food from the small farms and work on developing responsible waste management by stimulating waste recycle. On our trips we bike on pawed roads only, walk and hike on bitten paths and admonish our guests not to feed, fish, hunt and disturb animals.

By buying local products you are supporting this countries’ economy and helping Croatia to stand on her feet again! We consider it our responsibility to lead efforts to maintain and preserve the integrity of this fledgling sector by petitioning the introduction of tighter controls over the use of the country’s natural resources.

As a company, we support the local community by building camps in partnership with local families, building bridges and accesses to the rivers. In order to preserve traventine barriers on Zrmanja River we have built a wooden detour bridges. We also support an orphan bear shelter in Kutarevo.

In our office we minimize printing actions and recycle paper. Part of our staff is vegetarian and because of that we try to provide quality vegetarian meals on our trips.

Booking this trip you get to see a whole new perspective of this beautiful part of Croatia by kayaking on the hidden and best preserved parts of the clearest rivers in Croatia.

Zeleni kut is a small family hotel that directly or indirectly employes many local people and in that way is irreplaceable in the community. Our hosts in that small family restaurant prepare breakfasts and barbecue dinners with their own home grown food and fish from their own pond. Included in this program is a visit to National Park Plitvice Lakes and fees that we pay to go the National Park contribute to the conservation of that area.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've lead the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
