Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Autumn Yoga Cruise in Croatia

Environment

To offer a relaxing off grid holiday to participants away from the stresses of modern life.
To share the benefits of yoga and meditation to those on board. All classes are optional.
Sailing is one of the most sustainable form of transport there is.
For a Gulet, the main materials used for construction/maintenance is wood. The most versatile, renewable and sustainable resource on the planet.

To minimise the impact on the environment through sustainable practices such as:

Responsible rubbish disposal ashore

Pumping out waste water at recognised tanks ashore

Using sail where possible to get around instead of the motor

Observing nature and enjoying the turtles, dolphins, fish and sea life without disturbing them

Through our example, encouraging other sailing crews to do the same.

All the food used on board is locally sourced and supports farmers and growers in the region.
We employ three full time local crew and the boat is serviced by a local shipyard over the winter which also creates employment.

Community

We bring responsible tourism to isolated coastal towns which benefits the local economy. The boat can visit places which are often less accessible by road bringing much needed income to these communities.

We provide full time employment for 3 local people on board the boat as captain, cook and crew.
We support local producers by purchasing their food and supplies for the late season cruises.
All harbours in the sailing region get revenue in the form of overnight mooring fees.

The boat is maintained by employing a team of four local craftsmen for a total of 12 weeks during the winter and three local crew are employed throughout the summer.

The maintenance work itself means purchasing material and equipment from the local shops and retailers. We refurbish the boat and upgrade facilities every year.

In addition, on-going repair work throughout the year employs the local tailors, sail makers and carpenters.

User fees, income taxes, taxes on sales or rental of recreation equipment can provide the local government with the funds needed to manage natural resources.

I've done yoga holidays in the past but this one exceeded all my expectations. It was my first time sailing and our captain, Gary, was absolutely amazing. He made this holiday very special and showed us Turkey we would've not seen otherwise.
Big thank you to him as well as Emma - our yoga teacher

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The whole trip was memorable, on a beautiful boat, in a stunning coastal location with delicious food. The YOGA was an excellent and challenging partner to the trip and enhanced one's appreciation of where we were.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Think CAPSULE wardrobe!
Cabins are bijou on board and storage is at a premium. So minimal is good!

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Apart from the British owner, the three crew were local, the food was all locally sourced. Waste water and rubbish was collected and disposed of in harbour.
We did use the sails when practical, but mainly motored.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

A relaxing, enjoyable holiday.
