Ethiopia holidays, tailor made reviewed by Tim Elworthy

Unknown, to me, this part of Africa was a fascinating insight into a hugely varied country of lovely people - many leading a very hard life in good humour and without apparent religious or ethnic conflict. Their welcome was invariably friendly and helpful and an effort to make us welcome.
Expect a friendly and open welcome, to get to like local food and remember that some hotels in more remote areas are fairly basic but always clean. Do extend your trip beyond the most accessible tourist areas and fly where possible to reduce long days in a car.
Yes, all three.
Overall an unforgettable and mind broadening and sometime humbling experience. It is this rather than a holiday. Not for the squeamish or anyone seeking relaxation without distraction.
