Armenia tailor made reviewed by Lesley Holinshead

It was a fantastic trip and exceeded my expectations. Armenia is a really interesting country, with a lengthy and turbulent history, diverse geography and vibrant culture. The operator were a friendly and responsive company who really did offer 24 hour support, without which we would have struggled. Their advice was sound in terms of activities that we'd enjoy. Our guide, Vartin, was essential, as I think it would be difficult to see Armenia, and travel without wheels and a native language speaker. However, the best part of the trip was the people we met, and how they were genuinely welcoming and helpful. The operator were flexible and adaptable, so we could amend our tour and make it what we wanted.
Have reasonable expectations and look forward with an open mind. Like many ex-soviet countries, swathes of nature and outstanding beauty have been left devastated by industrial development and subsequent economic decline. Armenia is dealing with this, and need tourism to support economic development. There is much to enjoy. The weather in October was fantastic for touring, and seeing the wooded mountains and gorges in autumn sunshine was unforgettable. The food is authentically Armenian and mainly locally produced. Yerevan is a vibrant capital, with much to do and see eg museums and galleries, but it's just interesting and enjoyable to be and see.
I hope so. We used local hotels, local restaurants, shops, markets, transport and taxis . Hopefully we also contributed to tourism by visiting the rich range of cultural locations, monasteries, churches. museums old towns, archaeological sites and bought where we could.
Fantastic, thanks to the operator and the staff at the Hotel Abricot in Yerevan
