Every time a customer books one of our holidays and opts in to our Trip for a Trip scheme, we organise a day trip for a disadvantaged young person somewhere around the world to see their local tourist sites, often for the first time.
Our latest trip
On the 23rd June 2026, 28 children and 6 staff visited the National Botanical Gardens of Uganda taking a boat ride on Lake Victoria where they learned about tourism, conservation and environmentalism. Many of them had never had a day trip or a boat ride and were fascinated by the size of the lake.Highlights from the trip:
On a very rainy morning in June 2026, 28 children from a local primary school, Mamoritha Infant School, arrived to spend the day at the National Botanical Gardens of Uganda in the capital, Entebbe, on the shore of Lake Victoria.Neither the children nor their teachers had ever had a school trip before as they come from a very low-income area. The children had never been to Entebbe before either, or seen Lake Victoria, so this was an immensely exciting experience for everyone – including their parents, who were very pleased that their children were getting this opportunity.
After a quick run down to the beach and a dip in the water (the kids were fascinated by the size of Lake Victoria), the group explored the gardens, which hold some 2,500 plant species as well as large numbers of wildlife from hornbills to squirrels and monkeys. The children learned to identify a few of them, before a football was produced and a kickaround began.
Lunch, as always on our Trips for a Trip, was a big highlight of the day that the children raved about. Afterwards they took a 40-minute boat trip around the lake, which they loved as well.
As part of the day, the children and their teachers spoke about tourism and the importance of protecting the environment, such as by disposing of litter correctly. But while the educational aspect of trips like this is always valuable, perhaps the most important element is to show these children a world beyond the classroom and their day to day lives, while giving them a rare treat.

The Children took a boat safari of Lake Mburo followed by a picnic lunch ending with an afternoon and evening game drive where they learned about conservation and the different wildlife of the area.
25 children and 3 adults accompanied by 2 staff from Kagera Safaris visited Entebbe beach along Lake Victoria to enjoy the water and were provided with a meal and soda.

Kagera Safaris and the Community Initiative for Children at Risk work with young people by providing a home and school fees for at risk children. They train the children in football and music talents which help the children in finding scholarships. They range from around 6 to 24 years old.
