These partners actively protect the ecosystems they operate in, while encouraging local employment and generating sustainable income for surrounding communities.

Ol Losowan in Nairobi integrates eco-conscious operations within an urban setting by prioritising responsible energy use, waste reduction, and local sourcing, while supporting nearby communities through employment and service partnerships.

Maji Moto Eco Camp, located near the Maasai Mara, is fully community-owned and operates using solar energy, eco-friendly waste systems, and traditional Maasai building methods. The camp ensures that tourism revenue directly benefits local Maasai families, education, and healthcare initiatives.

At Olerai House in Lake Naivasha, sustainability is embedded through water-saving practices, natural landscaping, and close cooperation with local suppliers, reducing transport emissions while supporting the regional economy.

Cedar Retreat in the Aberdare Forest focuses on low-impact hospitality within a sensitive forest ecosystem. Operations emphasize minimal disturbance to wildlife, careful water management, and responsible waste disposal, while providing employment opportunities for local communities living around the Aberdare range.

Ol Gaboli in Laikipia supports conservation-led tourism through responsible land use, community partnerships, and conservation awareness. The property contributes to protecting wildlife corridors and supports local livelihoods through employment and sourcing.

Basecamp Samburu follows strong environmental management principles, including solar power, waste reduction, and water conservation. The camp works closely with local Samburu communities through employment, conservation education, and support for community development projects. Food is largely sourced from local farmers, reducing food miles and strengthening the local economy.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

While in Nairobi, visits to conservation centres such as the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Orphanage directly support the rescue, rehabilitation, and reintegration of orphaned elephants back into the wild. Visitor contributions help fund veterinary care, food, and long-term conservation programmes that protect elephant populations across Kenya.

In key wildlife regions such as the Maasai Mara, Laikipia, Samburu, Lake Naivasha, and the Aberdare Forest, staying at community-focused and conservation-minded properties allows guests to experience wildlife protection alongside meaningful community involvement. Income from tourism supports local families, education, healthcare, and conservation initiatives.
Throughout the journey, guests are encouraged to bring and use reusable water bottles, with refill stations available at partner camps and lodges. We actively promote reducing single-use plastics and minimizing waste wherever possible during the trip.

National parks, reserves, and conservancies form an essential part of this itinerary. All park and conservancy fees go directly toward wildlife protection, anti-poaching efforts, habitat conservation, and the long-term preservation of ecosystems that support both biodiversity and local livelihoods.

We align ourselves with partners who actively work with local communities, whether through employing local people, supporting community-led conservation initiatives, or providing education that encourages long-term environmental stewardship and economic resilience.

At Ol Losowan in Nairobi, local employment and partnerships with nearby suppliers help ensure that tourism benefits remain within the city’s surrounding communities. Staff are recruited locally, and services and produce are sourced from local businesses wherever possible, supporting livelihoods beyond the tourism sector.

At Maji Moto Eco Camp, the camp is fully owned and operated by the local Maasai community, ensuring that tourism revenue flows directly back to local families. Community members are employed across all areas of the camp, and guests have opportunities to learn about Maasai culture, traditions, and conservation practices directly from local hosts, creating meaningful cultural exchange and sustainable income.

At Olerai House in Lake Naivasha, local people are employed in hospitality, guiding, and maintenance roles, while food and services are sourced from nearby farms and businesses. This strengthens the local economy and reduces reliance on imported goods.

At Cedar Retreat in the Aberdare Forest, employment opportunities are prioritised for communities living around the forest edge. The retreat supports local livelihoods through staffing, guiding services, and collaboration with community groups involved in forest conservation and sustainable land use.

At Ol Gaboli in Laikipia, community engagement is central to operations, with local people employed in hospitality and conservation-related roles. The property supports community-led initiatives that balance wildlife protection with sustainable livelihoods in a region where coexistence between people and wildlife is essential.

At Basecamp Samburu, the majority of staff and guides are recruited from surrounding Samburu communities, providing stable employment and professional training. The camp also supports education initiatives, women’s empowerment programmes, and conservation awareness projects, while offering guests opportunities to engage with local culture and community activities.

In Nairobi, visits to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Orphanage also support local conservation employment, including animal keepers, veterinarians, and community outreach teams who work with surrounding communities to reduce human–wildlife conflict and promote wildlife protection.
