Description of Jordan walking holidays, nature and landscapes

Discover the diverse natural wonders of Jordan on this distinctive – and not-too-strenuous - hiking tour that reveals a country where nature is woven with rich history.

Leaving the Arab city bustle and museums of the Jordanian capital Amman behind, you'll head first for the Azraq Wetland Reserve – visiting a trio of ancient desert castles en route. The reserve is a watery wonderland where vivid blue kingfishers dart over a landscape where nature mingles with reminders of past occupations that include old Roman bathing pools.

Relax at the end of each day in luxury camps or comfortable eco-lodges in spectacular locations like the Ajlun Nature Reserve, where you combine history and hiking on the Prophet's Trail through a beautiful rolling forest landscape to the ancient church of Mar Elias.

You'll walk through dramatic sandstone landscapes, from the gorges of Mujib River and Wadi Dana in the Dana Nature Reserve to the almost Martian vistas of Wadi Rum, where legends of Lawrence of Arabia complement prehistoric rock drawings.

No visit to Jordan can miss Petra, and you'll have plenty of time exploring the ravishing rose-red ruins of this fabled 2300-year desert city. Enjoy iconic vistas over the Dead Sea too, plus the view Moses had of the Promised Land from Mount Nebo. Other historic sights include the fabulously preserved Roman city of Jerash and the immense Crusader castle of Karak.

This tour is available each year from 01 April - 31 October.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

All over Jordan waste is becoming a bigger problem. We ask all our guests kindly not to make this worse. Please do your part by leaving no more than a footprint behind during your stay in Jordan. And by doing this we believe you are setting the right example for others.

When you book your Eco Tour with us, you will spend a lot of time in the nature reserves of Jordan during your holiday. All these nature reserves are protected and established by the RSCN, the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature. The mission of the RSCN is to protect and manage the natural resources of Jordan. It is responsible for protecting the wildlife of Jordan. In addition to enforcing governmental laws to protect wildlife, RSCN also raises awareness in environmental issues through educational programs.
When spending time at the RSCN nature reserves, you are charged conservation fees (included in the price), it's your contribution for protecting the beauty of Jordan.

People

While visiting the nature reserves of the RSCN in this program, you will also see they sell handicrafts. RSCN has established handicraft workshops for local communities as a part of their socioeconomic development. The workshops are located in and around different RSCN controlled nature reserves, in an effort to spread benefits to different underprivileged local communities. By buying their souvenirs you support their project and thus the local communities. They are sold at the Wild Jordan shops, located at each nature reserve and at the Wild Jordan Centre in Amman.

At our office we have a team of local employees ready to assist you. Everyone we work with is given a fair wage. Keeping our employees happy is important to us because we believe that it is the key to our success and to your dream holiday. We encourage them to expand their knowledge in ways they feel most comfortable with. For example in class rooms or online.
Our team can't wait to welcome you to Jordan!
