CARBON REDUCTION

Solar panels provide the Lodge with electricity all day. Aiming to reduce the impact of their activity in this paradise, they installed solar panels and today they only use this type of energy.

You can enjoy much human-powered transport, walking or biking around this area. For example, a beautiful trekking through a rock canyon, following the path of a dry river until we reach the ocean. We walk alongside immense walls 15 mts tall, formed by Jurassic rocks from the Mesozoic era.

All meals are included and can be vegetarian/vegan. They produce their wine by the sea, they have an organic and biodynamic garden, sea salt and Salicornia harvesting, honey production, an olive oil project, and much more.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

Bahia Bustamante is a seaside Lodge surrounded by 360° of pure nature, located in Patagonia, in an area recognized by its relevant biological biodiversity. Only in a few places in the world it is possible to find such a number and diversity of seabirds and marine mammals, which is why it has been included in ´Patagonia Austral´ National Park & ´Blue Patagonia´ UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. It is also an IBAs (Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas). This is a privileged area to enjoy bird watching: a wide variety of species inhabit different ecosystems: marine, intertidal, marshes, wetlands, steppe, etc. The islands and islets of the region, noted for their diversity of flora and substratum, and the richness of the marine wildlife, create ideal conditions for the seabirds to reproduce. Moreover, they are sheltered from the wind, the swell, and land predators such as armadillos, foxes or skunks. As a result, this destination is an important scientific research center, not only for Argentinean biologists, but also for international experts who have been studying birdlife in the area for more than 20 years. In Bahia Bustamente they protect the local flora & fauna and collaborate with biologists and other scientists by offering the property as a base for their work. From the very first steps in the hospitality industry, they are conscious of the environmental value of this area and asked for expert’s help.

Today, their conservation actions mainly rely on the biologists and scientists (National Research Council of Argentina, Universidad Nacional de la Patagonia Austral, Wildlife Conservation Society, Fundación Patagonia Natural, etc) which they constantly receive at the Lodge. They offer them free accommodation and logistic support, in order to promote marine wildlife research.

Separation of waste – Reduce – Reuse – Recycle. Plastic, paperboard and aluminum are taken to the city, to be sold and recycled. Their amenities are organic. In order to avoid unnecessary use of plastic, they use wall-mounted dispensers which they refill. They also provide reusable bottles at the Restaurant if guests need them for their daily activities.

In all our trips, we contribute to Reforestarg. This institution generates collective plantations, empowers local producers, and conserves native forests. Thanks to all travellers who chose this journey, we have planted one more native tree in our country.

LOCAL ECONOMY

Bahia Bustamante Lodge is a small, family-run project, a private wildlife sanctuary & Eco Lodge set in remote Patagonia by the sea. Their main goal is to protect this piece of paradise & share this incredible nature with guests from all over the world, aiming to promote environmental conservation & raise awareness on the protection of this fragile ecosystem.

Travelers can walk around the Lodge to learn about its history, its founder, inhabitants, the buildings, everything! You will also visit the barnes where the seaweed is processed & learn about the different species found in Bahia Bustamante, their uses & more.

In Bahia Bustamante, they produce sustainable wool. At the ranch, you will understand the production process of wool and meat, and according to the season, you may participate in a day’s work, visiting the corrals and learning about the different activities carried out: shearing, weaning, classification, or marking of the sheep.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY, AND DIVERSITY

Travelers will learn about the lifestyle of the first pioneers who arrived here in the 50s, learn about the seaweed industry, and their sustainable wool production, and participate in farming activities with sheep.
