Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
CARBON REDUCTION:This luxury itinerary has been designed to ensure that it has a positive impact on the planet. We encourage travellers to plan a longer trip farther away and stay longer in one place instead of taking multiple short trips each year. This reduces the carbon footprint by minimising frequent flights and maximises the time spent connecting with the local environment and culture. An example is Hacienda Bambusa who use regional products in each of the restaurant where they recycle waste, and save energy and water consumption to try to protect the environment.
ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE:
When in conservation areas, it is vital that we hand-pick lodges that have a positive impact on the environment and actively preserve this for future generations. Hacienda Bambusa prides itself on preserving the environment where the lodge is situated by consciously work on their Sustainability Plans, avoiding using polluting products as much as possible. Continuously monitoring these factors is very important to ensuring accommodations don't negatively impact the environment. In the coffee region there are many initiatives put in place to improve the environmental factors of the coffee industry, such as agroforestry where the coffee is grown under the shade of trees helping to maintain biodiversity, protect water sources, and improve soil health. As well as this it provides habitat for wildlife and helps farmers diversify their crops therefore offering economic stability.
People
LOCAL ECONOMY:It is very important that we promote small boutique lodges that have a positive impact on their surroundings and give back to the local community by supporting local small businesses and employing from the local area. We make a special effort to recommend lodges that support local businesses by supplying local produce and selling local handicrafts and artwork. Whilst visiting Colombia there are plenty of opportunities to explore the local towns and artisans therefore supporting the local economy. During this itinerary travellers will visit Comuna 13 previous one of the most dangerous places in Medellin, but now a thriving community transformed by artists and many community projects.
EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY:
All the guides referred to in this itinerary are employed locally and offer incredible knowledge about the history and communities of Colombia. We believe it is essential to have local guides as this provides a more authentic and cultural experience for travellers. Employing local guides ensures money goes back into the local community. We also ensure that the accommodation used in this itineraries also have strong inclusive policies and strict equal opportunities policy.
