Travel guides
Our travel guide reveals a destination where you can step back seven years and explore with local guides.
Responsible Travel was built out of a love of solo travel, and we want to share the joy of it with you.
Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
CARBON REDUCTIONWe usually work on avoiding using too much carbon dioxide emission when we organize tours like trekking in several destinations and prefer to have pack animals instead of driving on nature. We also do not encourage using flights in this tour. We prefer adopting an eco-friendly transportation methods contributes to protecting and conserving wilderness areas and resources. By shifting to low-impact modes of transportation, we can reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and other non-renewable energy sources, ultimately minimizing the environmental toll of tourism. Food iis locally sourced and vegetarian options are mostly available throughout.
ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE
We always keep an eye on environmental littering in every destination we go. We make sure that there are rubbish bins, proper bathroom facilities and create awareness among the local community. Based on our observation one of the most challenging problems in many destinations of this trip is throwing plastic water bottles and we try to do the best with local residents by collecting them in one area and finally remove them. We exchange constructive ideas and experiences with our local agents about how to solve this problem in the long run.
We reduce our energy use, support biodiversity and regeneration, manage our waste and consume local and seasonal products. We also promote Eco-Friendly Travel Practices. This campaign will focus on practical actions that tourists can take to minimize their environmental footprint, such as reducing waste through recycling and composting, choosing reusable items over single-use plastics, and participating in “Leave No Trace” principles.

LOCAL ECONOMYOne of our priorities is to reach as much as possible the local community and make them beneficiaries from the local tourism activity so as to achieve sustainability and develop sense of ownership and responsibility. In this case, particularizing one of the destinations is important, it is about Zegie Peninsula which is found in Lake Tana close to Bahir Dar, and where one of the oldest monasteries called Ura Kidane Mihret is located and has about 10,000 inhabitants whose life is entirely reliant on tourism, beside growing some cash crops like coffee plantation. So, we encourage our clients to buy local products there. During this tour we focus on enriching local economies, boosting employment , encouraging creativity and entrepreneurship. creating inclusive opportunities, fostering understanding, appreciation and empathy and
preserving cultural heritages.Tourism activity in the northern circuit, where we organize guided tours covering both historical and natural attractions, has been significantly affected by the current situation. Although tourism has not come to a complete standstill, it is operating far below its previous level and is unable to generate the same economic benefits as it did in the past. This decline has had a serious impact on the livelihoods of local communities, many of whom depend directly or indirectly on tourism for their income and daily needs. Tour guides, drivers, hotel and restaurant workers, local artisans, porters, and many other people whose livelihoods are linked to tourism have all been affected.
EMPLOYMENT INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY
As the tour passes by several villages, we support local schools and students, mostly those more vulnerable such as those who suffer from visual and hearing impairment, by buying school materials, we use local guides who are experts of their destination and able give our clients excellent explanation about the history and culture of the area. When organizing this kind of tour we pay special attention to notably benefiting vulnerable groups such as minorities, youth, and women and we actively seek to support locally owned accommodation & restaurants, ensure as much income as possible remains within the local communities, involve local communities with our itineraries .
