Description of Estonia wildlife short break

Estonia is one of the most wildlife-rich countries in Europe, with around a fifth of its land given over to protected areas where animals like bears, moose, beavers and cranes flourish. Still, not everyone has a great deal of time on their hands, and so this Estonia wildlife short break focuses on just one, key, destination – Lahemaa National Park, a 50km drive east of the capital, Tallinn.

To save time, your small group will be met at the airport for a private transfer into Tallinn. Enjoy a walking tour of the old town’s beautiful medieval architecture before you head onwards the following morning to Lahemaa. Here you can follow wooden boardwalks through mist-shrouded wetlands, wander boulder-strewn beaches and soak in the spa of the historic manor house where you’ll stay.

The centrepiece of this short small group tour is a night in a specialist bear hide built from logs. With outdoor microphones to pick up the sound of any wildlife approaching, you and your fellow travellers can relax in comfort, enjoying dinner and looking out through the panoramic windows. Quiet is vital, as bears have such sensitive hearing, but the sightings rate here is excellent, up to 80 percent in summer.

Heading back to Tallinn via Lake Peipsi, where the bold can take a refreshing dip, you’ll stop at a local restaurant to share another meal with your group and guide before taking your leave of each other. Hopefully you got lucky with the bears. Even if you didn’t, take solace from the fact that through donating a slice of the profit, your holiday helps protect Estonia’s wildlife and wild spaces so that future visitors can continue to enjoy them.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

CARBON REDUCTION

Accommodations are carefully selected to be sustainable: centuries old houses, Green Key eco-label and so on. To keep you in comfort with a conscious mindset. As we have remote places on tour, we can use only cars, but the vehicles are shared to optimize consumption.
Fresh and tasty vegan food is available in every restaurant and tavern we visit. They all lean on seasonal and local products due to Estonian four seasons.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

This holiday relies on nature 70%, so we explore our impact on it 100%: we walk only on allowable areas and paths, leave no trash behind, and park on certified places. Even more, with every visit to bear-hide you support the organizer to expand the protected area. You can make an extra donation.
We donate per visitor to protect flying squirrels.

People

LOCAL ECONOMY

Our carefully selected accommodations are private owned. The owners have worked in hotel chains before and decided to establish something more connected with their values: run modern hotels in heritage buildings. Vihula The manor is also named the "Historic Hotel of Europe 2020".
Only local guides - they are rooted in the destinations or as close as possible, as no-one is rooted in bear-hide - are used. We are proud of our local products - food as well as handcraft - and offer them with honour.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

In company work only locals, our partners are all locals, mostly women - no other options available.
Estonia is in the TOP 3 atheist countries in the world, so no religious issues are found. Same with the gender, our previous president and prime minister were both women.
Our trip is dedicated to curious people who admire nature, no sexuality arises as a topic.
All places, except bear-hide, are wheelchair accessible during dry weather. During rain it is complicated to visit forest.
