Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

Thailand is a cultural treasure trove, offering up several UNESCO World Heritage sites like the ancient kingdoms of Ayutthaya and Sukhothai. When we visit these fascinating sights not only do we learn about Thailand's rich history and diverse culture, but our entrance fees help to contribute to the upkeep of these special places, ensuring they are looked after for generations to come.

We manage water consumption and reduce waste on this trip by encouraging people to bring along re-usable bottles and by supplying a large tank of fresh drinking water on our coach, available for refills.

We also include an overnight train journey on this trip. Travelling by public transport is not only a great way to get a flavour of the country and mix with local people; it’s better for the environment as it reduces our reliance on specially chartered vehicles.

As a travel company we are continually looking for ways to improve and are proud to be ‘Responsible in everything we do’. Education is key, and so all staff, Tour Leaders and partnering suppliers are trained in responsible and sustainable tourism. At our Head Office, we continually strive towards a sustainable and planet-friendly working environment, including having solar panels installed and a company commitment to reducing our plastic usage.

addition to the above, we are continually looking for ways to improve and are proud to be ‘Responsible in everything we do’. As well as this, we have valuable and longstanding partnerships with UK charities Toilet Twinning and Send a Cow, plus many smaller initiatives and projects around the world. We’re members of UK travel industry bodies Tourism Concern and AITO because we believe it’s important to share our knowledge and experience, as well as learn from other operators.

People

Elephants are synonymous with Thailand's identity, but sadly over the years this image has been exploited with elephant riding and shows for tourists. We do not offer elephant riding on any of our trips, instead we choose to promote elephant tourism in a far more natural way. On this trip we visit Elephant Nature Park, a place that allows elephants to roam around in their natural habitat, and offers no riding or shows. It simply provides travellers with the opportunity to witness these incredible creatures at home in a natural environment.

We also work in conjunction with the Mahouts Foundation, a UK charity working to improve the lives of Asian elephants by returning previously captive elephants to an 8,000 acre protected forest in northern Thailand. We have recently provided funds to build a guesthouse in the village that works to protect the elephants, whilst also offer a 4 day trip to visit the village and witness the elephants roam in the the forests.

In Thailand, we work local tour leaders who are passionate about showcasing their country and are keen to visit smaller villages away from tourist hotspots so that local people can benefit from the money trickling down into the local economy. We provide extensive training opportunities for our leaders, with them all required to attend an intensive training course, empowering them with the skills and knowledge they need to become industry-leading Tour Leaders.
