1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

We were only able to cycle the first couple of days of this tour because we contracted COVID-19 and needed to isolate. They were very enjoyable rides and the accommodations were very pleasant. Carmen was very helpful to us in making alternative arrangements.

The maps and trip descriptions were difficult to follow and need to be greatly simplified.

Yes, we really liked that the lodgings and routes took us to regular places and nature preserves.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

We loved seeing so much of the area. We loved swimming in the lakes - cooling off after a long stretch of cycling in the heat. We loved meeting the owner of the B&B in Malby. Canoeing made a lovely change. Great food.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Definitely take gel seats. Travel light. Enjoy it - don't rush. Go swimming in the lakes. Take the canoeing option. Go as fast as the slowest person and enjoy being together.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

By cycling rather than hiring a car we definitely reduced environmental impact. We enjoyed staying in local B&Bs especially the farm in Malby which was run by a local farmer. Really great experience and lovely food.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Absolutely brilliant. We enjoyed every minute. Extremely well organised by Carmen who is absolutely delightful and so brilliant at her job and gave really great advice.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Besides the cycling and being outdoors, canoeing on the lakes, lake swimming and beautiful countryside

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Ideally go when the weather is warm in June or July but out of season is good as long as you prepare well. Take enough water and snacks as nowhere to buy on the routes

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Excellent, well organised and great to discover the country this way

review 3 Sep 2017

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Canoeing the lakes.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

This is not cycling for softies and timings suggested are a bit ambitious. There is a lot of ground to cover, but at short notice Carmen was able to suggest shorter routes to accommodate our desire for a more relaxed agenda. I would recommend adding extra days on at the start and finish so that every day is not spent on the move. We enjoyed exploring Stockholm by bike before and after the tour.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes we stayed in local accommodation and ate in local places.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Great. Very well organised. Clear instructions and excellent support.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Just being outside on a journey under your own steam. The roads are very quiet -and quite often not tarmacked. Never being far from a lovely view over water.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Take a day or two in Stockholm before the tour starts. It's a very walkable city. But use the bikes for one day and don't miss the cycle out to the Sodra Djurgarden! It will give you a taste of what's to come! Sweden has a policy of state museums being free entry -so although Sweden is relatively expensive, you can amuse yourself all day for free in Stockholm. If travelling from the airport by train, there is an offer of two travelling at a reduced price at summer peak times.Co-ops are in most towns and open 7 days a week for long hours -so you can pick up a picnic lunch. Lots of the cycling is remote (once you leave the city/town) so carrying a packed lunch is ideal -especially if you see a lovely spot you'd like to spend time at. Do not miss the Marsipangarden coffee house in Trosa! You'll find it near the town square. There is a huge choice of every possible cake, biscuit and chocolates! Plus coffee that you can keep going back for. (Be prepared to exercise the 'eating cake muscle' on this holiday! It seems to go with cycling!) On the subject of coffee stops, it's well worth the extra 1km detour to Gnesta. Turn right once you meet the main road and a fantastic guest house with café is just a few hundred metres on your right. Once you reach Mariefred, do take the cycles out as suggested the next day. Even if you don't make the manor house, the view across the water back to Gripsholm Slott are magical! On the steamboat ride home, you can eat dinner. This was reasonably priced (by Swedish standards) and although a limited choice, was good food and sitting in a 1900 steamboat dining room was fun. If you are anywhere near the Sodermalm Island at night, find the park high up and to the left of the connecting road overlooking Stockholm and watch the sunset over the city!

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Once on the tour, we cycled all the time and followed usual environmental rules. We got to areas not often visited by anyone other than the Swedish population. Although we carried our lunch, we ate in local restaurants .....and lots of local coffee houses when we could find them.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Our operator was very helpful. Well organised and everything went to plan. We got on and enjoyed the holiday knowing that Carmen had the logistics sorted. The bikes were good quality mountain bikes and stood up to the tour well. This was our first cycling tour holiday and we will definitely be doing this type of holiday again! A fantastic choice if you like your holidays to be active.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Cycling around Stockholm & being able to explore so much in such a short time.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Just to be prepared with enough food & drink so you can stop anywhere on your day cycling to rest & eat.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

I think holidays always benefit the local area as tourism is such an important part on any economy, with regards to environment then cycling holidays are definitely the best & respecting the area means you can explore & take in the environment without using cars etc.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Excellent - Carmen our tour arranger was really good and went out of her way to make sure our holiday was a wonderful experience. We also added a trip to Gotland on our own & it was great to have the flexibility to do this. Would definitely recommend the holiday to anyone.
