I think more information about what to expect in the Solomons. The contrast between Uepi and the other two centres (Honiara and Fat Boys) is huge. So, my tip would be to research the places you are staying in as much detail as possible and don't expect too much in terms of food and accommodation (unless you stay at Uepi or similar, which I think should be made clearer)3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
It probably benefitted some local people, as we spent money in the hotels and with the guides. We also tipped a few people, as although advised not part of the culture, people are poor and obviously very grateful. I can't see how we supported conservation or reduced environmental impacts in any way4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
It was a trip of two halves (or a third and two thirds). There wasn't much to do in Honiara apart from the WW2 trip, which was itself not brilliant as the landscape has changed so much and the place is filthy. The hotel was OK, but the situation wasn't pretty and there was no information about activities (such as diving). Uepi was up there with the best places we've ever stayed, with wonderful accommodation, food, service and activities (we swam with Manta Rays). Fat Boys was pretty horrible, very run down, no service to speak of and the food was poor. Not an experience we'd like to repeat. Overall we were pleased we went, as Uepi will stay in our memories forever, but if there are similar hotels/resorts/islands to Uepi, I would suggest you steer people to these rather than Fat BoysHoliday Reviews
