The most memorable aspect was sailing in the northern fjords and seeing all the amazing Spitbergen mountains as well as the incredible glaciers.2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
This is a once in a lifetime experience of the incredible glaciers which may not be there for much longer.3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
The holiday brought into sharp focus the need for activism against climate change. There was little one could do during the journey apart from removing some ocean plastic, however one has first hand knowledge of the enormity of the effects of climate change.4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Sighting Polar Bears and also Glacier "calving".2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
The short hikes are quite doable for anyone reasonably mobile. Layers of clothing are important but walking boots are not required as boots are provided for going ashore. Take really good binoculars and cameras with good zoom, July is prone to low cloud and fog -late June is good for spring flowers.3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes to a degree-it provided employment.The local guides and the Svarlbard administration are very conservationist.4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Excellent. Good for bird watching, plants, botany, and sighting (possibly polar bears ,we saw 3 at a distance). Also walruses, reindeer, seals and maybe whales. Decent plentiful food and a very good crew.Caroline Thienpont review 22 Jul 2025

We went on a ship for leisure, that is the only disadvantage.4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

When the third day of the cruise probably the captain announced the presence of a polar bear in the distance. I remember all of us started running!2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Yes, I felt that the holiday benefited local people (we bougth several souvenirs and we did spend in bars and restaurants) and at least we didnīt spoiled the environment more than it is.4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Overall it was a great trip. We got very lucky with the weather ....10 mins of rain in a week. The add ons that we added, 2 days in Oslo and an extra night in Longyearbyen were good decisions, to split up the long travel and to make the holiday longer. The ship was superb, big enough to handle the conditions, but small enough to be cosy and non corporate (90 of us from every nation!) and the crew were friendly and efficient. The 7 Guides were all amazing friendly people, full of interesting facts and from 6 different countries. A few of them gave interesting talks on board, as well as leading short treks on shore. The day we arrived on board, the ship had a technical problem. An engineer had to be flown over from mainland Norway, which took the best part of a day to resolve. However, the resourceful staff chartered a catamaran for that evening so that we could visit Barrentsburg the Russian coal mining town ..........which was a 4 hour round trip away, so we didnt miss anything, & the ship was ready for sailing that night! Over the 4 Days we saw an Arctic Fox, Reindeer's, Whales, thousands of Birds, Walrus's and even the King of the Arctic, the Polar Bear, that we watched from the ship for 15 minutes! I feel you should advise guests to take substantial walking boots ,capable of managing a foot of snow. Warm clothes ,Hat & Gloves are a given. I would recommend the trip, as long as one is happy with cold weather !!Holiday Reviews
